Dahl soup - very healing
With cold and flu season here, I'm always happy to find healing recipes, both as prevention and medicine for a sick household. I just found this soup and it sounds ideal. It's full of things we already love, and has so many healing ingredients in it.
1 medium onion, diced 4 cloves garlic, minced 1 teaspoon turmeric 1˝ teaspoon cumin 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, finely grated 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil 3 Tablespoons lemon juice 1 cup red lentils 4 cups water 1 teaspoon salt 1. Heat the oil over medium heat in a large frying pan or saucepan. 2. Sauté the onion, garlic, and spices. 3. Add the water and dried lentils and bring to a boil. 4. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer until lentils are tender, about 45 minutes. 5. Remove the cover, add lemon juice, and simmer over low heat, stirring frequently, about 20 more minutes (until lentils are mushy and thick). 6. Serve with rice if desired.

Re: Dahl soup - very healing
I love Dahl. I have some green lentils, but oh well I'm going to make some too. It is one of the foods my three year old will eat too! Child won't eat pasta, but she'll eat spicy curry

Re: Dahl soup - very healing
Other lentils will totally work in this. Let me know how it turns out.

Re: Dahl soup - very healing
I have a curry recipe using lentils (got it from the 660 Curries cookbook) that is quite similar to this recipe, and it is . I serve ours over brown rice.

Re: Dahl soup - very healing
This looks delicious! Dh was getting sick of regular lentil soup, since I've already prepared it twice this fall and we always have so many leftovers.

This sounds delicious! I've never had dahl but I love lentils, especially in soup. Time to hit Whole Foods for some red lentils!
