making this cake
If I ice my cake today (we're eating the cake tomorrow evening), do I need to store it in the fridge overnight or will it be okay at room temp? It's regular canned icing. I know NOTHING about icing cakes

I'd check your can of frosting to see if it specifies refrigeration. I tend to lean towards using the fridge in general.

well, I went ahead and did the cupcakes today. I'll do the rest of the cake tonight so it has time for the icing to harden and set up a little before the party.
