VENT: Sooo someone decided I needed to be on the Pearls' Mailing List

So, I get home yesterday and find a catalog from No Greater Joy Ministries in my mailbox WITH MY NAME ON IT!!!!! Only one person I know who would've put my name on their list - MY DAD'S WIFE.

I'm so mad I could spit fire and nails!!!

I called them up immediately and told them to take my name off their mailing list as I didn't subscribe to it. I also told them I don't subscribe to ministries who promote child abuse.

I believe I told my dad yesterday when I talked to him I had my name taken off their mailing list.

SIDENOTE/DIGRESSION: I talked to him this morning, but very general topics. He thinks my majoring in psychology is "psychobabble" and not grounded in science or Scripture for that matter. Well, guess what, dad, I'm going to a CHRISITIAN university that makes you write about psychology according to scripture. But he is supportive of what I've chosen to major in as it is truly fascinating to me.

I am really sorry you have to deal with this. To be perfectly honest, I would not be comfortable allowing people who constantly criticize me and my decisions open access to my life. I would put a hard fast boundary in place for my family's and my own protection and sanity. To have someone nitpick your decisions is just crazymaking, and also very rude. I know he is your father but you are an adult.

If it had been me, I would have taken the Pearls materials and sat down and wrote copious notes on EVERYTHING in them (this is not scriptural... see "X" scripture. This is abusive and contrary to "X" scripture, etc.) Then I would hand-deliver my copy to the person who sent it to me and tell them that I read it, I didn't agree with it, and I canceled the subscription, but they could have my copy.

For ME, already having grown up with this kind of philosophy, it helps to sit down and minutely deconstruct these kind of arguments so they are exposed for the lies they are, and then writing down what the scriptures actually DO say about those subjects. It is replacing lies with the truth. HOWEVER, I don't think this is a good idea for everyone, because those negative thoughts and images have a way of creeping into your head, even when you know they're wrong. (Garbage in, garbage out)

Wow, I'd be upset, too! I don't think it's the best thing to confront your step mother about it, though, considering that you really don't have any evidence that she did it. Instead, don't bring it up and keep praying for her to have a change of heart.

That's my typical MO when I know someone has done something idiotic that I can't prove

I love watching them squirm, and it usually nips any other attempts by them right in the bud.

Alternately, I'd buy her a subscription to mothering magazine

But when someone has been PA enough to do something like that to me, I know they won't have the....round objects required to actually stick up for what they attempted to do.

Oh yeah, she knows that I oppose their methods. She does NOT like that we AP. She thinks my boys are heathens and that because I help/teach Dakota when I ask him to do something that it's disobedience!
