Book suggestions for kids *traumatic pet loss*

A friend of mine lost their kitten last night to a dog attack that happened in front of all their kids ages 4-10. Any book suggestions for the kids to help them process this trauma? It seems like many are oriented around pets getting old with a side mention of accidents and I remember being disappointed in the books we bought or checked out when we lost a pet tragically when C was small. TIA

I immediately thought of A Terrible Thing Happened by Margaret Holmes.

I think this might be as close as you get. I have read this with one of my kids and the book leaves it really open as to what the "terrible thing" is, so you can make it fit any type of traumatic situation.
