Re: Cake Decorating!
Ack! Tupperware is guaranteed not to break. If you have any broken tupperware, find a dealer and return it. They will replace it if it is still available, otherwise they will pay you a pittance, claiming that is what it is now worth. Of course, it's too late now, but next time, don't toss it.

Re: Cake Decorating!
Amy- I think you did great! I love it. One the Hello Kitty cake I made, I also used buttercream icing and then MMF for the decoration.

Thank you all, I appreciate it.
I am just not a big fan of those colors all together.

Another question for all you cake decorating gurus: Is it possible to make fondant less sickly sweet? I made marshmallow fondant for the first time this weekend and it worked beautifully - it was a test cake for my dd's birthday in 2 weeks. I love the recipe, I love the look of the cake, but it was so sweet even the person with the world's biggest sweet tooth (that would be me ) couldn't eat it. Has anybody overcome this, or should I just tell guests that the fondant is for decoration and they're welcome to not eat it? |

Re: Cake Decorating!
OK here's my first MM fondant cake:
It's a plain vanilla cake, with lemon curd and whipped cream in between the layers (the cream got absorbed to make it more moist and lemony), buttercream icing with more lemon curd mixed into it and then MM fondant over the top. My best friend helped me with the decorating. My first cake attempt failed - it was a very moist lemon cake, I've made it before and it's yummy! But I doubled the recipe for the party to be able to use my 12" pans, and when I doubled the amount of flour I made a mistake and added a cup too much. (And I'm usually brilliant at maths, making it so much worse) so when it came out it was very hard and dry. So at 6pm the night before the party (right when my best friend arrived to help decorate the already-baked cake) I started over, but I rather used a plain vanilla recipe that's pretty foolproof. So the cake wasn't as lemony as I wanted - I hoped it would really offset the sweetness of the fondant. But at least using lemon buttercream really really helped. I'm pretty proud of this cake! It's not nearly as professional as what some of you ladies achieved but I think it's good for a first attempt. |

That is so, so cute! I have always wanted to try making butterflies and such. You did a great job!
