I made bread in my crockpot!
My oven was broken for a few days and I had to make bread, so this is what I did: I made my regular recipe, put dough in my smallest bread pan, added about a cup of water to the bottom of the crockpot, put a glass lid on the bottom of the crockpot to raise the bread pan, added the bread pan (didn't even have to let the dough rise a second time on the counter, it rose in the crockpot as it heated up), and let it go for about 3 hrs on high. I froze the remaining portions of dough to cook over the next few days (I tried refrigerating them wrapped in plastic wrap, but they kept rising). Oh, and it's good to lay a piece of foil loosely over the top of the bread pan to catch the condensation.
It wasn't the best bread ever, but it was bread. The top didn't get nicely rounded like it does in the oven and it was more dense and chewy, but it was kind of fun. (made good toast!) The last time my oven was broken I discovered I could cook biscuits and cookies on the griddle.
