By the way, to make Twinkies, you will need to buy a Twinkie pan. But you can make the Hostess Cupcakes or Sno-Ball Cupcakes with basic kitchen supplies. Amazon sells a "Cream Canoe Pan" that will work well.

I think it was an older issue of Family Circle (apr 17.09) that has the recipes for Coffee Crumb Cakes, Cream Filled Cupcakes, Snowy Coconut Rounds, Devilish cocoa sandwiches and Vanilla sponge cakes. The name of the article in the FC was "Double Takes" and it ran on pages 125-128.

I've made the cream filled cupcakes without filling them in, and they taste verrrrrrrrrry much like what they are supposed to be. I'd actually reduce the sugar next time I make it.

They do make great once in a while treats. I last made the cupcake ones with the swirls on top about 2 months ago? I didn't even keep all of them at home. Some went home with my FIL for helping with the kids. DH was sure disappointed.

Cook's Illustrated did remakes of Hostess cupcakes and Twinkies last year. It my have been in Cook's Country magazine. Super yummy!

I had a source for Twinkie pans, but lost it before I could get around to buying one. Does anyone have a good source?

Never mind! I think that cream canoe pan will fit the bill!

Well, that stinks. Amazon is out of the pan, as is every place else I've found and Norpro only sells wholesale.

You can make your own pan by taking a spice canister like Spice Island and wrapping foil around the bottom and sides long ways. I saw it on one of those copy cat recipe videos on I think youtube. I think it was by Todd something or other. I cannot remember now.
