I've been convinced (and convicted) that I was not going to spank my kids for a long time. That belief became stronger over the past 6 months.

Initially, DH wasn't on board. He was spanked as a kid and didn't see anything wrong with it. Slowly, his heart has been changing...his mom sent him an email apologizing for spanking him as a child, expressing feelings of shame at doing so, and discouraging him from spanking his own kids.

Fast forward to yesterday. I was talking to DH about the abuse/death, and how the Pearls recommended using plumbing supply line. I read to him off their website about hitting 6 month olds for tossing food.

And he thought it was sick. And he told me to stop reading their website because it was just going to make me angry. It was the final straw in crumbling his remaining defenses regarding spanking. I think his heart has changed!

Although that little girl's death was a tragedy, God used it in my DH's life and heart....

Yeah, I visited the inlaws by myself (well, with dd) and his mom asked if I was developing any community as a SAHM. I talked to her about my fight or flight incident when a group of moms was talking about spanking and I very strongly felt the Holy Spirit telling me to flee. That led to a discussion about how badly she felt about spanking her kids, and how she regretted following all the Dobson stuff....I asked her to tell that to DH, and she sent him an email. It was helpful for him to hear - since he was of the mentality that his parents spanked him and he turned out okay, so therefore we should do the same....

Yes, as much as I often feel a bit out-of-place here since I'm not fully AP, I feel like I do have much more in common with the mamas here than many of the mamas I know IRL.

You ARE AP, though. AP isn't a method, and it isn't black and white.
