Unprepared for Parenting (Ezzos, Pearls, Etc.) *Public* Support and information for those affected by the Ezzos, the Pearls, and other punitive and adversarial methods of child-rearing.
A public forum.
Before posting here, please read this sticky and keep guideline 23 in mind:

23. No posts harshly dissecting parenting moments of others since we desire to humbly cultivate a heart attitude of grace and not judgment towards other mamas. We all struggle at times as parents and have much to learn, and GCM's focus is to provide tools and information for each of us to parent more effectively. Posts voicing some frustration regarding choices made by others can be okay, but it needs to be within the overall context of seeking understanding or ideas for better responses in the future.

I had a moment right after my son was diagnosed with autism where it really hit me how thankful i was that we parented the way we did when he was small. Verbal communication is so hard for him, and if we had ignored his cries when he was so young he would have shut down even more

Before I even realized my kids had SN, this is one of the things that convinced me I did NOT have to follow Dosbson's plan. Why did only the SN or foster kids get off scott free ?

I've read several Ezzo publications and the only one I remember mentioning special needs is their most recent book "The Toddlerhood Transition" and even then it was only in refernce to autistic children. I'm not home right now so I can't even tell you what it says in the book. I'll look it up later. But, I'm most certain that is the first reference I've seen in Ezzo materials.

iircc dobson makes such disclaimers in Strong Willed Child - he differentiates between kids with special needs and "strong willed" and I believe in Dare to Discpline as well ...dont' know it's been a few years since I've read them nad could be remembering wrong.

I suppose we could find the Dobson quote and people could put it up on Twitter/FB etc with a question, like, "If it's possible to parent SN kids effectively without being punitive, why not everyone?"

Something snappier to put on placards if anyone manages to set up an anti-protest would be good, too... any ideas?

The idea that if spanking were really God's parenting prescription it would be suitable for all children including those with special needs, and also it wouldn't be possible to parent foster children effectively without it, was what really made me question it.
