Re: Berkey
At our former house, we put it on the counter next to the sink. The spigot was over the sink. We could fill it from the extending faucet.
Now it's on our island/breakfast bar. I think you can buy a stand for it. Ours wouldn't tip easily. It's pretty heavy. |

Re: Berkey
I really want to get one as well. It's just my husband and I and our 10 month old. Could we get away with getting one of the smaller ones? How do you clean it?

Re: Berkey
There was 3 ppl in our home when we got the light (2.5gal) and my parents have the same size but the chrome.....3 ppl in their house. I would not recommend going smaller. I would actually like to have a second for the second story for night time. Lol

Re: Berkey
I love the thought of having several Berkeys around the house. My two older boys have the lower level to themselves. I often buy them the big jugs of arrowhead or cases of water so they drink more. I might consider going smaller but getting several.

Re: Berkey
I've been planning to get a Big Berkey. Since we moved months ago I've been lugging water home from the grocery store and it's getting old.
One thing I was wondering was how much fluoride is it able to remove? It's added to our city water here and I've read it only takes out a fraction. I want as much of it gone as possible. |

Re: Berkey
If you get the flouride filters (they are an add on) then it is supposed to remove all of the flouride plus a few other things. They stopped adding it to our local water, so we have not been using them.

Re: Berkey
Funny this should pop up today. I'm passing our Big Berkey on to a friend. We have a Royal for our family now. Since we are on a community well, I mostly use it for ferments that need unchlorinated water. Our chlorine levels are fine for drinking, just a tad too high for my microbes to be happy.
The filters are the $$ part of owning a Berkey. I don't clean my nearly as often as others. I feel like it is a pain because I want my kitchen counter and sink super clean before I scrub them.

Re: Berkey
Loooooooove our Berkey. I don't know what size we have; it's been 10 years since we bought it. We don't change our filters often enough, and I rarely clean it but it is hands down the best water I've ever had. I fill 3 32 oz thermoses every day when I go to work so I don't have to drink the water there. (I drink a lot of water, LOL.) The water in the Houston area is HORRIBLE. Like, in restaurants where it isn't filtered I can't even drink the sweet tea because it tastes so bad. It's the only reason I drink soda when we go out to eat - but there have even been places where the soda tastes bad!

Re: Berkey
We have a large Berkey. I used my Swagbucks money to save up and purchased it off of their Amazon Store front. I also compared prices with the Berkey site to make sure i was getting the best price and take advantage of the sale prices.
I purchase new filters about 1x a yr-18 months. We have the 2 black filters and 2 fluoride filters (ours will take up to 4 black filters) My husband reacts to almost everything, he does really well with the Berkey water that is filtered. I would suggest that you but the glass see through spigot attachment so you can see how much water is filtered and it helps with ease to know when you need to add more water. |

Re: Berkey
Is the fluoride filter optional? Our city may be one of the last on earth that doesn't add fluoride
