Re: When you don't do cereal...
Here my kids eat a variety.
Wheat Pancakes, Wheat Waffles, Boiled eggs all prepared ahead of time, Make a bunch of pancakes or waffles and freeze them. And you can add berries or millet to make it real healthy. Rolled Oats Shakes with yogurt and berries. Soon to be Kefir hopefully. Toast with Fruit Bagels with fruit Eggs and Toast or Eggs and Potatoes. Muffins with Millet or Bran added So many more things just can't think of all of them. Depends on how creative I am feeling.

Re: When you don't do cereal...
wowie! What great ideas. I guess I don't think much in the am...LOL...as many of those are things we do eat...but cereal is "king" of our breakfasts. But so unfilling. I think I should start making menus for the mornings like I do for dinner. And start making my own granola and yogurt again...
Definitely interested in that coconut oil...have to read the thread. And kefir...what's the story on kefir? |

Re: When you don't do cereal...
oatmeal
cream of wheat eggs -- over hard, over easy, scrambles, flat, puffy pancakes -- 10 grain from Bob's Red Mill or power pancakes. toast w/pb We've been doing more cereal lately cause I'm tired. I also have a schedule. Cream of wheat on Monday, Eggs on Tues, etc. It really helps and the kids like knowing what's coming.

Re: When you don't do cereal...
We do our different kind of fruits/veggies and protein then add our cereal alternative just as a filler. Some we dont do anymore but I threw them in for ideas for you
Pancakes muffins bagels toast tortillas (corn and flour) sweet rice sweet bread from a baker cream of wheat sweetened polenta granola biscuits bread pudding french toast waffles banana bread croissants pita bread thats all I can think of right now but the above can be added to breakfast in all kind of ways. I do have to admit, I still buy kashi cereal even though I know there are tons of ways to fix breakfast without it I think perhaps Ill stop, now that I just typed out all the alternatives Eta: oh ya, potatos. hashbrowns, potato cakes, fried potatos in olive oil. Also popcorn cereal is pretty yummy! You just air pop corn and add in things like shredded coconut, raisins, nuts, things like that. |

Re: When you don't do cereal...
we do cereal for snacks but not usually as a whole meal
for breakfast... omelette scrambled or cheese eggs french toast (stuffed with cream cheese & with strawberry sauce is wonderful) oatmeal cream of wheat toast/cinnamon toast pancakes and waffles - make a double batch and freeze the extra for quick breakfast later bacon & fried eggs breakfast hash with leftover meat & potatoes bagel + cream cheese english muffin with butter and jelly or bacon, egg, and cheese biscuits cinnamon rolls banana + cereal combo so they have more to fill up on than just cereal yogurt with or without granola muffins or a sweet bread like banana or apricot strawberry banana, peach, or other smoothie - just frozen fruit, a bit of vanilla yogurt for sweetness, and water

you all are making me hungry!
klpmommy- that smoothie/shake sounds GOOD. I even bought kefir today. I just don't have almond milk. Think I'll try it tomorrow with regular milk. |

Re: When you don't do cereal...
We have pb&j, cereal (Cheerios and all bran - together-kids too ), or breakfast burritos most mornings.
We have a first morning snack of a muffin a lot of times (high protein muffin-ground up nuts in it) We make a bunch of burritos and freeze them so we just pull them out and heat them up. I have been known to make 4 or 5 days worth of scrambled eggs. They keep fine in the fridge.

Re: When you don't do cereal...
A bowl of soup is very nice for breakfast on a cold morning. Sometimes I have a turkey or ham sandwich when the non-dextrose-impregnated kind goes on sale--toast the bread first, then put in the turkey/mustard/pickles/cheese, then zap in the microwave until the cheese melts. Occasionally I splurge on ramen with chopped vegetables and an egg cooked on top.
