Okay, that makes sense. In the pillow pattern, it has thin stripes with 8x8 squares, so it looks like a checkerboard or a window. It's saying to "hold the color not in use against the wrong side of work, working over the strand every 3 or 4 stitches." It's not making sense to me.

This is how I switch colors. I'm guessing that you could do similar without cutting.

Oh my goodness, Laura, that is exactly what I was looking for, Thank You!!!

I couldn't figure out how to weave the color that is not in use into the work. Now I can make that pillow.

I've got to study. drat it, looking at the eye candy in crochet magazines makes me want to drop everything, buy every possible shade of yarn imaginable, and crochet in a cave somewhere.

Yes! That's exactly how I change colors

Then, when I'm finishing a square, I cut and then weave in the ends rather than knotting.
