Default Getting ferritin levels up.. Floradix etc? Allison, can you help?

I posted before about my mom... she has had a lot of bleeding problems, fibriods etc and ended up with low hemoglobin and super low ferritin levels. Her numbers are "up" to the teens after a few months of iron supplements and a hysterectomy. For hair growth you need a ferritin level of 40 and for hair re-growth you need a level of 70. (BTW, the pathology report showed she had adenomyosis so she's glad she went with the hysterectomy).

Can you get ferritin levels up with the same methods you'd use for raising hemoglobin levels?

She does cook with cast iron part of the time. She's taking prescription levels of iron sulfate.

I was going to suggest to her to eat more red meat and take Floradix but I wanted to be sure that would help her raise her ferritin levels.

What else can she do, or what should she do instead? She wants to get those levels up so she can not only keep what little hair she has left but grow some more hair.

Thanks for any info you can share!

other types of iron are more readily digestable than sulfate, sulfate is a poor choice for iron supplementation from all info i know. nik is on fumarate...which is also not best iirc (i believe gluconate is) but for compounding it's the only option available.

chlorophyll is beneficial, its the green color in plants....leafy green veggies are good for diagestable iron

What she said. Ferrous sulphate is a very poor form of iron to take. If she must take a pill, ferrous gluconate is a better choice and can be found at GNC.

I have a very hard time maintaining iron stores due to my body's pH. I have found taking large doses of vitamin C helps my absorption of iron enormously. I'm talking several thousand mg. per day.

Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take a boat in the air that you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turn of the world. Love keeps her in the air when she ought to fall down. Tells you she's hurting before she keens. Makes her a home.

Okay.. sounds good. Her GYN is really nice but she of course prescribed the sulfate/sulphate and told her twice NOT to take it with vitamin C. I thought it would help if she DID so mom double-checked with her on that. Weird that she said that... she's open to natural things but not really knowledgeable about them, not a surprise I guess. Glad you posted that Allison.

I'll pass along the info!! I just wanted to make sure all the recommended natural ways for getting hemoglobin up would work for ferritin too.

Yes Vitamin C is good.

But calcium blocks iron absortption so make sure she doesn't take her iron with Calcium fortified OJ.
