Does anyone know about this. I found it today. The Jan. 1 entry is a gentleness challenge and talks about how our yelling affects our kids, it seemed good but I don't want to spend time following something an then have it turn out punitive still. I've limited computer time and I want to make it worth while. Here's a link:

Well, a quick scan of that website makes me think they are James Dobson followers and very patriarchal. But that's the first time I've seen it.

I'm familiar with this blog, she is very punitive, and does spank.

This mom is speaking at the Sally Clarkson conference this year. I have read her blog from time to time over the past year. I want to point out that she is just a person, and the women living well site is just her blog, where she shares what she is currently doing in her home and what is on her heart then. The link in the post above was over a year ago. Think of how much we can change as moms in a year. Think of moms here that started posting a year ago with a 10 month old saying "my 10 month old never obeys me...she is so defiant! I tell her not to climb up the oven door and take her away and she just goes right back to it again! Then, she looks back at me to see if I am watching before she goes and does it again! if I don't punish her, how will she learn? " Oh, yeah, that post was by me on GCM what was actually years ago (three boards ago?) , but seems like yesterday. I hope that no one here would see that post and say "That RLM, she has such a punitive mindset! "

I think that if you want to committ to gentleness and listen to discussion videos on Sally's book, then that sounds great. You should be able to listen and take what you want and leave the rest. I know that Ministry of Motherhood does not have punitive stuff in it.

They are very punitive. I've looked in to them and liked what I saw at first untill I started reading more.

My prayer is that a desire to be a gentler, more patient mother will arise in all mothers everywhere. It is such a worthy goal. I loved what she closed her post with:

Touch them gently, use their names gently, use your words gently, slow down and be loving, kind, and gracious.

Those specific things are things our children long for, and things that make our homes better places.

Their gentleness challenge sounds very positive, but I've checked them out several times in the past and there is always a patriarchal and punitive slant to things. My friend who adores them is highly highly punitive; there's no contradiction in her mind because her punitive actions are done out of love and rooted in the Bible, so being gentle is good but doesn't negate expecting immediate obedience and relying heavily on spanking as a tool to gain that obedience.

As I mentioned might happen, Courtney followed Google back & has read this thread. She clicked thru my siggy link and left me a very sweet message explaining her views.....which are pretty much what was discussed. I asked her permission to post it here, but will not be continuing a back-and-forth for her.

Hi Jaycee - google alerted me to the Gentle Mothers Forum mentioning my site - so you are right I am reading along lol!!! And I'm okay with the conversation. It's a good discussion to have. If you want to tell them I clicked on your "facebook" link at the bottom of your comment and contacted you - you can. I would NEVER promote the Pearls, Ezzos crying it out, Vision Forum or spanking (although once I did mention spanking long long ago and since have taken it down - that was a mistake.). I"ve taken down other videos that I reconsidered after posting also - like one on divorce...it was too brief to explain my stance - so I don't bother lol! I think that's between women and their pastors, circumstances etc. sweeping statements are not appropriate for my blog...so I try to be an encourager rather than against things if that makes sense.

I'm not against spanking but I"m for gentleness. I"m not against crying it out - but I"m for seriously tending to your children. I'm not against public schools (and someday my kids might attend) but I'm for moms training their children in the admonitions of the Lord. I'm not against women working - but I am for women making their homes havens - whether they work or not...hope this makes sense - I try to avoid the controversy of being against things - blak - the world is negative enough! I try to be an encourager by being for good things...

I am for men being the heads of the home. That is probably pretty obvious though lol! But not mean men ruling over women in an abusive way. But goodwilled men who love their wives but are difficult to live with sometimes cause they are quirky - I'm for women in those marriages sticking with it and not giving up - to pray and let him lead even though her flesh says I'm outta here.

My heart is to encourage women to love God and his word first and to obey him as best as we can in our marriages, parenting and homemaking. I don't want to get into people's "philosophies" but that's hard to not do when you are trying to be an open book - every now and then a philosophy I've "adopted" sneaks in - lol!

I will admit I am a flawed blogger- the cross says I am flawed - and I'm so thankful for grace. I am a girl in progress who is very aware that I have followers and have moved into a teaching role. I tread carefully and prayfully but want to humbly admit that I do have missteps. I try to delete them when I'm aware of them lol!

Thanks for listening - you are welcome to copy and paste this in the forum I love the hearts of the women there - their children are blessed to have mommies who are so passionate about loving them. Beautiful!
