Healthy fall food/treats
I love love love fall and fall food but a lot of it is really high in sugar. So I hope this can be a collection of ideas for fall food that is healthy.
One of my favorites is Celestial Seasonings apple cinnamon herbal tea. So yummy it doesn’t even need sugar. I tried making 2 ingredient cookies with pumpkin instead of half of the banana and spices but ended up needing a quarter cup of sugar in there because it wasn’t sweet enough. Also I like corn on the cob and butternut squash. And I cut cantaloupe into pumpkin shapes for the kids. I’d love to hear everyone else’s favorites.

Re: Healthy fall food/treats
I just discovered this recipe the other day. It's really good! I doubled the recipe and did half maple syrup, and half coconut sugar. https://beautyandthefoodie.com/magic...-crumble-bars/
---------- Post added at 02:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:09 PM ---------- Oh, also, I omitted the coconut for the topping. I think I wouldn't like it as much with the coconut flakes.

Re: Healthy fall food/treats
Well, not the healthiest food in the world but just a little sweetener (maple syrup).
http://heavenlyhomemakers.com/easy-c...eese-fruit-dip So good and would be great with apple slices! Better for you than caramel dip!

Re: Healthy fall food/treats
I love this chicken with apple gravy and cheddar rice. It seems like such a fall dish to me.
I also love to make sauteed cinnamon apples which are really easy and contain no extra sugar. I melt butter in a skillet and saute apple slices with a little bit of cinnamon until they are lightly browned. I usually use organic gala or pink ladies for this and they are plenty sweet enough without added sugar or honey.

Re: Healthy fall food/treats
I found some more fall-ish recipes.
My kids love these pumpkin pancakes and they only have 2 TBSP of sugar. These roasted sweet potatoes are really yummy and I don't use all of the honey called for - just a drizzle. I love any kind of roasted veggie for fall but these seem to really hit the spot: Roasted Parsnips and Carrots (I've also added sweet potatoes to this as well). I'm not sure if these qualify for your version of healthy, but I tend to make them more in the fall: Sheet pan kielbasa and sauerkraut - I like to add the sauteed apples to this meal. Cranberry Orange Pork Roast - quite a bit of sugar in this one, but might be able to be subbed

Re: Healthy fall food/treats
These are high enough in sugar so I wouldn't call them exactly healthy, but they are more moderate than many options, and also, amazing: https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/20...ry-snack-bars/
Also, these holler fall to me: https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/20...a-baked-pears/ You can reduce the amount of maple syrup and they're still good. I love pumpkin or squash, diced small, tossed with olive oil and garlic, and roasted. Or pumpkin or butternut soup. Just for fun, we do stuffed bell peppers in orange bell peppers so they look like little pumpkins. If you are not convicted about Halloween imagery you can also cut tiny jack-o-lantern faces.

Re: Healthy fall food/treats
Kitchen Stewardship's pumpkin muffins are on our regular rotation year round and easily adaptable to any dietary needs. I also make pumpkin pie and consider it fairly healthy - canned pumpkin, eggs, coconut milk, maple syrup, homemade GF crust. I even let the kids have it for breakfast!
I try to channel my fall cooking needs into savory things like soups, chilis, and stews. Sweet potato and black bean chili is something that comes to mind, as well as savory things that include 'sweet' spices like cinnamon.

Re: Healthy fall food/treats
Someone on here, maybe SonshineMama or flowermama, had the best recipe for a pumpkin snack cakey thing that was naturally sweetened and whole wheat. I can't remember if that was on this board or the old one.
I apple nachos in fall. Pink lady or Honeyscrisp apples. If you don't know what that is, slice apples really thinly, then top with drizzled nut butter, coconut, almonds, raisins, granola, mini chocolate chips, whatever you want.
