Re: So please talk to me about cloth diapers and a front loader
I was wondering this, too. That is the machine we have. I fill up the detergent dispenser and let it dispense the detergent. I just have my regular detergent in there. I use sposies, but I did have to use some cloth the other day and am wondering how to wash them when I have the regular 2x detergent in the dispenser. I did figure out how to do a pre-rinse cycle, then a regular cycle with an extra rinse like I did in my old top loader, but the detergent thing has me baffled. I thought of maybe just telling the machine I had 4x or 6x detergent in the dispenser so it would just use a tiny bit, but I don't know....

Re: So please talk to me about cloth diapers and a front loader
I've tried various soaps over the years, natural and otherwise. I honestly haven't been able to tell much of a difference between them. I am tempted to try Rockin' Green soap again, though. I think some of it depends on the type of diapers you have - pockets/microfiber etc. are more picky and prone to stink and such IMO.
Right now we're using all prefolds and flats, and I'm washing in Tide free. I do a short wash without soap in cold, then a heavy duty wash with soap and an extra rinse. I've used baking soda and/or vinegar at various times in the past but again, haven't noticed any real difference when I do vs. when I don't. I used to wash with the sanitary cycle (superheated) but then read that wasn't great for the dipes on a regular basis. Green Mountain Diapers has a great handout on washing dipes, detergents, etc. that they will send for free with their orders. I don't know if it's available online or not. |

I've fiddled with detergents and not found much of a difference. Using hot water and an extra rinse is the difference between stink or not.

CDing is a little more interesting with a FLer. I ran an extra rinse cycle every time. I used both Lulu's in the Fluff and Rockin' Green and liked both.

Re: So please talk to me about cloth diapers and a front loader
For our hard water, the brand of soap didn't seem to matter (they were all eh, so-so) until I added the Charlie's laundry booster to our routine. Your water can play a role in what kind of soap you need.
AFA front loader, I have no idea! I'm super happy we didn't upgrade our top loader when we had the chance. Do you have a local cd store you could call for trouble shooting? They might know a routine and soap that would work for your machine and water situation. |

Re: So please talk to me about cloth diapers and a front loader
I use non bio detergent here is how I roll: cold rinse, wash at 60, rinse, spin.
We have been cding since he was 5 weeks old and I have noticed that if his nappies are still stinky, they is either powder build up so needs extra rinsing ( I know thats the case as I won't add detergent and I still spy bubbles) or I didn't use enough so needs a re-wash. Rarely happens to us though. The sun works miracles to air and freshen up the nappies.

I've always used Planet from Kroger and never had any problems. That's from living in 6 VERY different places, so it's proven itself on the whole gamut of water types, I'm sure.
