Default boba vs tula

have any of you used or tried either one?

what was your experience and did you prefer one over the other?

I would be wearing a small toddler for a long period of time.

Have both and loved both. If you have a local BWI chapter, I would see if they have any you can try on to see how they fit you. Depending on the size of your toddler, you may get a toddler tula which will be larger than the boba. They are really for kids fitting into size 2T pants for length. Standard tula and boba are similar sizes. I would try them on if possible just to see what you like best for your body. I did like the boba pocket better. Also you can find it cheaper used, Tulas hold their value better.

I don't have the option of a try on.

I have a very small toddler who is light weight.

I would need to carry for a very long time for long distances. (on a vacation trip).

so, it sounds like neither would be a bad choice?

Personally I liked both! Dh used the boba and I used the Tula. I definitely like both better than the ergo. Maybe order from a place that sells both and exchange one if you don't like it? But where I am, you can also find a used boba for 50-60 dollars. Tula, pretty much at retail.

---------- Post added at 04:38 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:37 PM ----------

I would also get a standard in the Tula if that is what you get. Tula does have better prints. I am sure if you Google you can find blogs with comparisons too.

I spent a ton of time online researching the two, and finally decided on the Boba. I got it and hated it. It's 2 or in some places 3 layers of really thick cotton canvas and it was so stiff and hot. I don't know how no other reviews I read mentioned that.

I got the Tula, and I LOOOOOOOVE it. The inside layer is thick cotton canvas, but the print layer is regular quilting cotton and it is so much softer and not stiff and hot like the Boba.

Huh. I don't remember that at all with the Boba, though we gave it to my SIL so I don't have it here to compare. We did have the boba 3g so maybe it is different. Is the three layer part the part with the pocket?
To complicate matters, a lot of people also love kinderpaks. I think they are easier to get now than they were.

I didn't use the boba a lot once ds was bigger because I had the Tula. I thought the back support on the Tula was great and I have a bad back. Tula does have a new mesh carrier out, as do some other popular SSCs. You may want to check that out for a hot climate. I have the Boba Air but wouldn't recommend it for long term wearing.

So far my Tula has been great for back support, but C is only 9lbs so I haven't really put it to the test yet. The straps are very thickly padded and don't dig into my shoulders at all.

I agree. It was very bulky to me, and the straps were too wide and all around it just seemed too large. Maybe because I'm smaller? IDK. I will say I've used mine a few times with my toddler and it was better, but still I like my Beco Soliel much, much better.

I have the boba in the kangaroo print. I love it! I have an ergo but I prefer the Boba so much more. I was wearing it today with a 35 pound 4yr old in 85 degree heat and didn't find it all that hot. I wear my little guy in it almost everyday. I wouldn't normally wear her with that since I have a Kinderpack for her but was very happy it still worked so well.

Given that you want to use this in hot weather, I'd think about some of the options that are specifically for heat. I wore ds in 100 degree heat and serious humidity in our (regular) Tula. It wasn't terrible, but we were both pretty sweaty. As I said, I wouldn't recommend the Boba Air for long term carrying because the shoulder straps have no padding. (I did also have that carrier with me, which was okay for short term carries).

Here's a list of some other SSC options for water and/or hot weather wearing. I haven't tried most of these, so I can't actually weigh in on them. The Tula mesh isn't on here because it just came out. I'm not sure how hard it would be to get.

I will also say that we used a cooling towel when I was carrying ds in that intense heat. I had it around my neck. My one complaint was that it left all kinds of fuzzies on my neck. I think it may have helped some. It's worth a try and didn't cost too much. Just another idea for hot weather carrying. Hope this helps!

I am thinking of a Disney trip.

We would wear a lot and it would be in the early fall where the heat could be hot but not overly intense.

I have a pouch and a ring sling, but I do not think they would be good for hours of wearing.

Gotcha. I don't know how the heat would be then. You may be fine with a regular canvas carrier, but any of the mesh carriers would be fine year round too. I would definitely go with a SSC. I agree that a pouch or ring sling wouldn't be comfortable for that kind of a trip. Tula does have a big Disney following.
