lots of diaper fabric ordered today!

I'm so excited! I just ordered a yard of "aqua" colored PUL, lots of fold over elastic for the couple of diaper covers; white microfleece for the insides of my pocket diapers (had to order from a different site though - a little bummed about the extra shipping costs), a new snappi for the prefolds I plan on using the first couple of months for DS2, and a diaper cut of brown camo PUL for a fun diaper. I should have enough fabric to make about 8 OS pocket diapers for DS2 - or more likely - 7 OS pocket diapers and 2-3 small diaper covers. Total ends up coming out to about $4.75 a diaper!

Our budget is very limited and I feel blessed that I have a sewing machine and the know-how to make diapers. My diaper pattern isn't as stretchy as my favorite store-bought diaper, but functions the same

I'm thinking with these diapers I'm going to try the pass through front slot where you can supposedly throw the diaper in the wash w/o taking out the soaker and the soaker will come out in the wash

double bonus!! I've never heard of this. Is there a brand/s of dipes that does this? Besides yours of course.

I maybe bought some bamboo terry and bamboo velour to make diapers, prefolds and mamapads (for me and Sophia, the diapers for her, mamapads for me and for sale) from last week. And some 97/3 wool interlock for soakers and yoga pants for Sophia/for sale, too

Just wanted to say that both with my couple of fuzzi buns that I have, and with the diaper that you made, Morgan, I use prefolds and never take them out before washing and they always come out in the wash.

Honestly, now that I've taken the plunge, if I ever am blessed to have another baby I will likely make the bulk of my diaper stash in the future. I like making them. And, its cheaper. Plus, I can get exactly what I want, in the size I want and don't have to stress to get them.

A friend asked me if I would feel like L's getting 'less than' diapers because I've made them. And, nope. L's diapers totally ROCK. They are trim where I want them trim, stretchy where I want that, absorbant to precisely what I want them to hold, in the fabrics I want...and in exactly the designs I adore. Of course, I used fancy prints and bamboo and my costs per diaper are around $8. But, that includes matching shirts to go with my diapers so you have to count part of that cost towards the shirts too

I really shoulda' paid more attention during the sewing portion of home ec!!!! I love the dipes you've made, and you just can't beat that price for custom dipea and cool shirts!!

The Fattycakes pattern is really easy to make. The only difficult procedure is installing the elastic, which you have to do without being able to see it. But, I developed a trick where I secure it with pins in a temporary casing to hold it in place, and I get it sewn in perfectly every time with my trick.

I can make fancy stuff too. And, my sewing skills come from a month when I was 13 and my grandmother sat down and taught me how to sew. Once you learn how to follow a pattern, you can make just about anything as long as you take your time. But, the shirts and dresses I'm making for L for summer are super easy. Apron style shirts and A-line dresses, maybe a few with ruffle hems, just because I can make them faster and on babies and toddlers I like the simple styles best personally.
