9 yr old wants to learn graphic design
My son's birthday is coming up... I tried to get him to think of some gift ideas that don't involve video games. He spends waaaay too much time on the computer but wants to learn how to draw better on the computer. So I guess that's a start towards something. Anyhow, anyone have any programs or online courses or books they can recommend? I might try to get into graphic design myself. He's pretty good on the computer. Excellent at reading. Pretty decent artistic skills

We have Lynda through our public library. Pluralsight also has some free courses for kids.

That Lynda looks great! I got him Corel draw for home & students. My mom is getting him a little tablet deal with a stylus with different tips that's made for graphic artist...I've been thinking of getting into making cards and art etc for years and it just dawned on me I could probably play with his new toys and it would totally be better than dealing with all the clean up with real paints and other media. I think we will have a lot of fun together. I just can't share his enthusiasm for Minecraft
 so this will be great

My kids love graphic arts. They just do things on Photoshop.
Another activity my kids love that involved technology but isn't screen time - making stop motion movies. They do it with a phone. I dont think you need anything extra. Maybe a special app, not sure, can ask. And they are funny and really creative.

Oh WOW. That Lynda link might be what we're looking for for high school. One of mine is really highly interested in digital art.
