Re: Decluttering thread? Challenge? Accountability?
After a rough year ending in a 3 week stay in a psychiatric facility last year. I bit the bullet and paid for a professional to come and help.
I'm proud of what we achieved but there is so much more to do. They will come back in a month to have another go (that's when I can afford it again) https://m.facebook.com/lizziesdeclut...&source=result You can see the before and afters here. She posted for each of the 3 days she was here.

Re: Decluttering thread? Challenge? Accountability?
I went through a cabinet Tuesday that needed to be organized and tossed a bunch of old THM stuff I should have gotten rid of long ago.

Re: Decluttering thread? Challenge? Accountability?
Here's my list. Re-posted and updated. Everything done previously is deleted and everything checked I did yesterday and today.
Reorganize shelves in kitchen to accommodate printer supplies. Put up curtain rod in living room. Reorganize downstairs closet. Buy storage for under my bed. Remove all items from my dresser and give to dd18. Take dd18's dresser and give to ds10. Throw away ds10's dresser which is falling apart. Go through all games and reorganize. Get rid of at least 1/3 of the games. Clean and organize pantry. Organize and purge attic when I put the Christmas stuff away. Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk

Re: Decluttering thread? Challenge? Accountability?
I think I have a goal. Since this is my second year of tracking what I have decluttered, my goal is to get rid of more stuff in each of the categories (bags of clothes, boxes of misc. items, larger items donated or sold on local bidding site). They aren't yet out the door, but I have a box and a bag nearly full of stuff.

Re: Decluttering thread? Challenge? Accountability?
I need to go through closets. Everyone but S needs their clothes sorted and purged.
I need to get my dh on board with getting rid of some of his stuff. Actually, If he would just commit to putting things away when he's done with them, I could live with it. Screws, tools, etc just get "placed" somewhere instead of put away. I need to consolidate Legos. They don't get much play anymore but J isn't willing to part with any, yet. I need to wipe down the insides of cabinets. That should result in a trash bag or two getting filled. ---------- Post added at 10:40 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:35 AM ---------- Quote:
My dh grew up in a very cluttered home. Very. I grew up in a completely uncluttered home. He's fine with clutter. It drives me batty. :humph I wonder if hiring someone would help. If s/he would know how to phrase things to help him see the benefit. He's not against declutteting, he just can't cross a certain threshold. I bought THTCI and the whole time I read it, I kept thinking, "I've been this way my whole life, practically." I didn't learn anything from the book except to see that it's not me, I get sabotaged by 4 people in my family who just can't get on board. |

Re: Decluttering thread? Challenge? Accountability?
I went through all of my bras and put the ones I know I'll never wear again in the donation bag. I still need to go through the "maybe" ones (but that means trying them on) but my drawer is much better already.

Re: Decluttering thread? Challenge? Accountability?
I recycled 3 blankets that weren't reusable. That felt major to me because I had to find one of those clothing recycling places.

Re: Decluttering thread? Challenge? Accountability?
I didn't see this thread before (I need to use the "new posts" feature more. ) but I've been decluttering here so I might as well join in. I don't understand how we still have so. much. stuff! I get rid of stuff every single year, yet I still have so much to get rid of. I have not been very good at stopping the flow in.
Anyways, I've been going by category. I'm getting rid of things more slowly than I'd love but not sure how to change that with current situation. I've released some really challenging things (baby items.) So I'm proud of that. I have a professional organizer I work with every now and then. I want to get things back at least to what they were last time she was here so I can have her back without feeling too embarrassed. I wanted to make that 1000 things chart to fill out but our printer is on the fritz. Maybe I'll have DH print it at work. I'm so motivated by numbers. A lot of the stuff I'm "decluttering" are actually "use it or lose it" projects. I have things I have acquired that I actually want to use but haven't in forever... A lot of it is craft stuff. I created through a lot of my stash at Christmas for or homemade Christmas. I plan to make a LOT more. Mostly things for Operation Christmas child. .... The other "use it or lose it" category is food. The pantry and freezer. Other things just legitimately need to go. I'm posting to local free groups. Whatever doesn't go by some point will get dropped of at a shelter or thrift shop. Oh, bras. I can get rid of those... |

Re: Decluttering thread? Challenge? Accountability?
I joined a Buy Nothing group to get rid of things and have a girl coming by to get my old blowdryer soon.
I've sold some diapers to a lady who is meeting to get them Friday and I've bundled some baby things we do not need for her to look through as well. CHALLENGE! Valentine's Day is coming up. Choose one option: Get rid of 14 things that are red, pink, white, or have hearts. Spend 14 minutes a day on any decluttering work you can find to do, 2 days a week minimum. Break up with something that you used to love but don't anymore. |
