Re: Cattle Dogs
Me!!!
I adore mine even though she is so smart she is bad and can squeeze through things like a weasel. She is sweet and loving and so protective. Sadly I break out in hives when I pet her. But it's hard to tell her no when she climbs on me when I'm on the couch and snuggles her face into my neck and just lays there and breathes into my hair b Of course I wind up very itchy and with hives on my face. She herds the cats, kids and chickens and other dog. She is terrified of our super fat cat Burrito which cracks me up. She won't even go into a room with him. He likes to surprise attack her and sometimes, I think to freak her out, he will walk up and rub against her which makes her freeze and get giant eyes.

Re: Cattle Dogs
I will be out all day, but want to come back and post some pictures if I can figure out how.
I love hearing about how quirky some of these dogs are and I love how everyone says they are so sweet and loving. That's been my experience for sure!

Re: Cattle Dogs
I knew one that was protective of a cow hide that was on the wall as decoration. If you touched the cow hide, she would come growling and snarling straight at you. As soon as you moved your finger a centimeter off the thing, she was happy and wagging and your best friend. Tap the finger back on, death awaits you. It was so weird

Re: Cattle Dogs
I have a dog that's ½ blue heeler and ½ rat terrier. She herds us and makes sure everyone is in their place. Lol. She's 10 and quite odd looking.

Cattle Dogs
I'll post one when we get back home. Currently, we are in New Mexico with DD and DGD.
She has the head and coloring of a rat-T. Spots on her feet like a blue heeler. Lol. Edited to describe dog.

Re: Cattle Dogs
Cattle dogs fall into the category of "too smart" dogs for me I really like my dogs smart enough to train easy, but not so smart as to think up trouble. :shfity

My DH constantly says my dogs are stupid. Ive tried to explain that they are actually just too smart to mindlessly do what we ask them to do. Also, did anyone see my thread about heeler dogs heeling the baby? Anyone elses cattle dog heel at the kids? |

Re: Cattle Dogs
We rescued the sweetest heeler mix seven years ago. Zoe is not a typical heeler, she is so relaxed, laid back and awesome family dog. Love heelers.
