Can I substitute coconut oil for butter in cookies?
If so, what is the sub. ratio? One to one or something else?
Any quick help would be greatly appreciated, as we are trying to make some cookies in the next hour or so. Thanks so much, |

Re: Can I substitute coconut oil for butter in cookies?
Thanks.
For those who are interested...I did a little quick research and found this: http://www.filippoberio.com/Recipes/...tionChart.asp# It is for olive oil, but other sources confirm these amounts as 'correct' for any cooking oil, including coconut. It has a cute printable chart. As with anything, I am sure you can add more or less to your liking, I just thought this chart was very helpful! |

Re: Can I substitute coconut oil for butter in cookies?
I would think coconut oil would be a bit different cause it has a more "butter" consistency... Interesting though...

If you look at the chart, though...the amounts are so close that it doesn't likely make a difference either way. Texture (fluffiness) is a huge deal to me, so I will probably go with the lesser substitution, just to (hopefully) insure a fluffier cookie. I will be sure to report back with my results! |

yes, it will work fine. But if you're used to butter in cookies, it will taste different.

I cookies made with coconut oil.
I use coconut oil to sub for butter with pretty much everything, except for when I make myself a grilled cheese sandwich. I just feel that would be pushing it. Pie crust made with coconut oil cake pancakes brownies

Re: Can I substitute coconut oil for butter in cookies?
I see that have made everyone hungry already this morning!
---------- Post added at 11:14 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:13 AM ---------- BTW: First batch is done. The cookies are perfectly fluffy (which was my biggest concern...I don't like flat, "oily" cookies. I substituted 3/4 cu. coconut oil for 1 cu. butter. I also substituted (in case you are wondering) 1 cu. raw sugar plus 4 T. molasses for 1 cu. brown sugar (I didn't have brown sugar).[COLOR="Silver"] |
