Re: New at Gentle Christian parenting, could use pointers
Thank you for sharing your experiences and advice. I'll be keeping up with this thread. Dd already has a very intense personality so I want to make sure I have some ideas to help us both make it easier for her as she gets older.

Re: New at Gentle Christian parenting, could use pointers
So, it's getting better.... last 2 mornings were pretty good. The 5yr old making that noise less. Added the sticker chart back in, they get a sticker for each day that are good at school and daycare, and after 20, they get to toy store. So far, 6yr old has 3 stars, and 5yr old has 2.
Thank you for praying, I have had pretty peaceful mornings.

Re: New at Gentle Christian parenting, could use pointers
I want to reassure you that, even when your mornings/days aren't always peaceful, if you use them to learn and teach, then they are not wasted and they are still growing the relationship between you.

Re: New at Gentle Christian parenting, could use pointers
Very true.... I have to embed that in my mind, and use it for when it's not so peaceful in the morning. Very encouraging, thank you.

Re: New at Gentle Christian parenting, could use pointers
So... I am proud of myself.... I was tested to the fullest... We visited an old friends house. They have a St Bernard. When it was time to go, I got kids in, told them to buckle up, and Said my goodbyes.... We hear kids fighting, look in they are all over the car, so I got them settled, and I get in.... Smell dog poop... The 5 yr old thinks it's funny.... He has it on his shoe, and putting his feet on the back of the passenger seat, and I told him to please stop, but this is funny to him... And he keeps doing it, Asking him to stop and take off his shoe...he is touching the shoe, and it's not bothering him, so he is not avoiding the mess.... Before this, I was trying to put his legs down, and he put them up, then I felt that frustration building up... I handled it the old way, for a very brief second, then caught myself, then I stopped the yelling...and got out of the car, to his side took off his shoe, lifted his chin, and gently spoke to him... The craziness stopped, quietness in car, and the aroma of dog poo in the air...

Re: New at Gentle Christian parenting, could use pointers
Practicing gentle with children is becoming a habit, and has changed the way I react with my husband too.... Like an overall change in me.... Again crossing your pathes has changed my life, and is a true blessing. The Lord has been bringing me across great resources.
Yesterday's test, I feel great about, because I was tested to what I feel is extreme, where I felt that stress.... And at first I was calm, and asked him in a gentle firm tone, but then as he continued to make it worse, I yelled him to stop putting his feet on the seat, and stopped... Remembering, that this is not gentle, so I took a deep breath, and handled it the way I should have from the beginning... And could breath because it was over.

Re: New at Gentle Christian parenting, could use pointers
You handled poo, that was not your kid's, AND was being used as an art medium, without yelling.
Mad mama points for that.

Re: New at Gentle Christian parenting, could use pointers
I love where I am at.... And they are noticing and learning... The youngest said something to the oldest, that was what I have been teaching... .

Re: New at Gentle Christian parenting, could use pointers
New thing...
6yr old bit someone at school for the first time today.... Asst principle called me, and had me talk to him... gave him the "what did God give us teeth for?", and took away cartoons.... is this okay? Or are there any suggestions? 5yr old talked about underwear at a table in his Pre K class... they had him leave the table, asked the social worker to pick him up. He is going thru a phase of thinking, fart, burp, poop, pee, and underwear anything is funny, how do I break him of this? Thanks
