Medical professionals - help - low blood pressure?
Is 70/40 dangerous bp? Yes the person is symptomatic
Thank you ---------- Post added at 02:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:18 PM ---------- To clarify, my dd’s symptoms and bp are making a bit of a fuss right now. I’m a little confused about it but don’t have time or energy to discuss particulars. I’d just like an opinion because I don’t wanna ask at work

Re: Medical professionals - help - low blood pressure?
I’m not a medical professional. I’ve seen this happen in a Drs office with my mom who has Orthostatic hypotension. They didn’t freak out or anything, just gave her time to adjust to he position and retook her BP. Watch for signs of shock and be careful someone is nearby in case she passes out.

Confusion
Cold, clammy, pale skin Rapid, shallow breathing Weak and rapid pulse Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk ---------- Post added at 02:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:37 PM ---------- Make sure she’s not dehydrated. Dehydration can be a big contributing factor. I don’t think my mother has any episodes now that she’s in care and not chronically dehydrated due to forgetting to drink adequate fluids. Re: Medical professionals - help - low blood pressure?
She probably needs some electrolytes and the original Gatoraid or if you can get the one with Cane sugar is a good fluid booster. (My daughter that has something similar to POTS has to have salt and a good bit of it.......my daughter had a stress test and she was their fastest fainter ever. She didn't have to do the test. They determined that when her BP has to go up, her heart gets out of sync and that is why she faints. If she keeps her fluids up, takes her BP med for low blood pressure and salts her foods, she doesn't have episodes.)
I hope your daughter feels better. That is a really weary feeling to not be able to move with that drop going on. 40 as the bottom number is very low and she needs to be sitting or laying down to prevent any falls should she faint. |

Re: Medical professionals - help - low blood pressure?
I guess we’ve been a little bit startled cuz this isn’t new but all of a sudden there’s a big whole drama unfolding ... I’m just kinda overwhelmed by the urgency as she’s had all these things happening since September . Of course her BP is potentially dropping lower but she’s still home still doing gymnastics we r pretty baffled but I also wonder if they didn’t reveal everything abt her holter
It’s just weird and confusing and I started wondering if 70/40 is really *that* low We r aware of salt hydration and electrolytes

I can walk around with blood pressure that *should* be causing spontaneous ceasures, it still isn't good. It looks like maybe your daughter is out side the norm the other way, she can function with only minor issues with a BP that would have others fainting. I am praying for you as you work though getting her help. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

I’ve posted abt it elsewhere. I’m Just really confused because they said her holter was “unremarkable” but are suddenly calling constantly (even after business hours) to check if their stat referral was expedited and now freaking out cuz pots couldn’t see her till May. I’m confused cuz they’ve sent her home from the ER and 3 follow ups. Now all of a sudden everything a rush after her unremarkable holter monitor. It seems like either 1 an overreaction 2 they should’ve admitted her They finally got an Appt w a pots specialist in 2 weeks the first “stat” referral was set on May 18. I’m just baffled and wondering if we r living in denial. Letting her do whatever, live normally etc. Is she near critically ill or is she not? I’m just confused ... and was trying to understand . We were told just to get this moving but as time passes it seems they are increasing their urgency Her bp normal is dropping too... was 110/70 now 90/60. They r also testing for addisons. That doctor also doesn’t want her quitting gymnastics I’ve said more than I intended in let’s talk . I was in a huge hurry after yet another call from a provider — I was truly just trying to get a grasp for if 70/40 was “that low” when it’s 70/40 she rocks and sways and grabs stuff to stay upright or the provider has to hold her up when doing orthostatics I now recognize the referral specialists back line from my dd’s pcp and know her by name the last call today she said “hey it’s x...” and I was like “yeah I recognized your number “

Re: Medical professionals - help - low blood pressure?
If you are wondering if it warrants emergency medical treatment I think you’re better off asking her doctor who knows her- is there anyone you can call and ask that to?

Re: Medical professionals - help - low blood pressure?
I talk to her np regularly now. She calls or messages regularly ... Her pcp is on maternity leave I’m more confused abt the urgency when she’s at home being told to be. Careful but live normally

Re: Medical professionals - help - low blood pressure?
It is low if symptomatic. I would always be concerned if symptomatic regardless of numbers since BP is different for everyone and it changes as we change/grow older.
I once sent a boy who complained of dizziness to the doctor for a blood pressure like that and he came back with a doctors note that was close to his baseline (IIRC the diastolic was a bit higher but the systolic was the same) and he just needed to drink more. So he got a pedisure every day at 10:30 for the rest of the year. Do you have a automatic blood pressure machine for at home? I would get one so you can monitor it at home. I am surprised they are not more concerned with those symptoms.
