Ok, now a dairy free/naturally sweetened frosting!
So, I found a couple cakes I'm trying to decide between. Now I need frosting.
I had originally thought I would do cream cheese, but now I'd rather not do the dairy. I also would rather not do a traditional, full of sugar, frosting. But, I'm a little at a loss as to what else I could do. Any help?

How about a g'nosh? I don't even know how to spell it. It's a drizzly topping. Lemme see if I can find something about it online.

Hmm...okay, it's "ganache" and it tends to have cream in it. I think you might need a glaze instead.

I"ve seen a recipe for a raw date chocolate frosting around, but gosh if I can remember it now... I'm sorry.

All I can think of is a frosting that would be thinner, thus, less of it, to reduce the amount of sugar.

Yeah, I was having a hard time coming up with anything as well. I want to avoid chocolate too, since it's an allergen and he's only 1.
I may just have to go with a regular frosting and make it with coconut or rice milk or something. I doubt he'll eat much. And it *is* his birthday. I suppose a little sugar won't hurt him. :P

Dump truck dirt cake (if you can come up w/ a non-chocolate recipe) doesn't require frosting.

Re: Ok, now a dairy free/naturally sweetened frosting!
I've been experimenting with coconut oil for frostings and glazes, but it keeps turning into fudge, requiring me to eat it. Darn.
I think I'm going to try some sort of coconut oil/cocoa/something else glaze for O's birthday cake. For my babies, we do their first official sugar for their first birthday. |

Ooh, that sounds yummy! I wish I could do chocolate. I just don't want to push it with Punkin's other sensitivities. :/

I just made peanut butter frosting. It does have 2 cups of powdered sugar but I think you could cut it down. It calls for milk but I used water and it was totally fine.
