Zeuterin (non surgical neutering)
Does anybody know anything about this?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeuterin Our local shelter has started using this method to neuter dogs. I hadn't heard about it before at all, its basically a local injection that will permanently sterilize a male dog. It costs less and doesn't require anesthesia. Its basically sterile water and zinc. It sounds too good to be true, but if this worked, it sounds like a great option in controlling the pet population. One drawback that i see, is that it doesn't seem to affect testosterone production like a classic nueter and i wonder if it will fix any of the behavioral problems that people have with unneutered male dogs (roaming, agression, etc.) Does anybody here know anything more about this procedure? |

Hum I havent heard of this but I would imagine if it does
not affect testosterone levels then the male dog behavior would still exist

Re: Zeuterin (non surgical neutering)
Having known quite a few people who keep healthy, well-behaved, and not at all problematic intact male dogs, the thought of a little extra testosterone wouldn't worry me that much In fact, especially for young dogs this would seem like a great way to prevent unwanted litters without entirely cutting off testosterone's positive effects on bone and muscle growth

Re: Zeuterin (non surgical neutering)
This is REALLY good news to me! De-sexing in Europe is rare and they don't have a pet population problem nor ill-mannered dogs. De-sexing, especially before puberty, has been indicated in hip dysplasia as well as fatal endocrine problems. The sex hormones regulate more than the sex drive. http://healthypets.mercola.com/sites...g-effects.aspx
This is a really informative video, from a vet who used to work at an animal shelter and was ADAMANT about de-sexing, until she saw the effects. It's pretty emotional, she is holding back tears at a few points. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enPCZA1WFKY |
