What would you do? Re: GKGW

However, my pastor has been talking about this Christian Parenting video that he is going to show in church for quite some time, but it just hasn't worked out. He just told us what the name of it was on the weekend and that he'll show it next week. It's "Growing Kids God's Way". I don't know what to do. I don't think it's been researched very well, it's just in response to some of us asking about christian parenting. Are there any gentle discipline videos I can suggest to him, instead of watching the GKGW? I don't want to sit through it, and I certainly don't want mama's who don't know any better to think that's the only way to parent. Plus, I've been having trouble articulating to my DH just how important I think GBD and that I want to learn alternative ways to parent/discipline, but he still thinks that sometimes a "swat" is just what's necesary to get through to our kids, so I *really* don't want him watching it.

If for no other reason than to delay the parenting class for awhile until a better researched series is offered, have them look at www.ezzo.info, and stress the fact that various organizations have denounced his methods, and do you really want someone who does not respond to Biblical church discipline teaching you about Biblical family discipline?

I agree. Sometimes I think pastor's are so busy with all they have to do, that sometimes they take recommendations on books, videos, etc, without checking them out/reading them first. Maybe you could point him to the ezzo.info and show him some AP sites as well?

I want to 3rd the recommendation for the website. Sorry, I don't know of any videos, although I think Cloud and Townsend (authors of Boundaries) have a video series on parenting, but I don't know how good it is. Maybe someone else has seen it?

There's a letter in the Resources sticky that I sent to my pastor when they wanted to offer GKGW at our church. After the letter, he not only pulled the class, but called Ezzo a heretic.

Steal the letter and send it!

I think Tim Kimmel has a video out with Grace-Based Parenting
