I found this tip for microwaves a while back. Fill a bowl with water, add a splash of vinegar. Heat it up in the microwave until it's boiling then leave it in the microwave with the door shut and the micro off for 15 minutes. Come back and everything just wipes right off due to the steam bath. Don't make the same mistake I did the first time. Turned the micro on for 15 minutes then wondered why there was no steam buildup. If the microwave is on, the steam vents out, so make sure to let it sit with the micro off.

Re: Natural Cleaning Recipes
oops, just saw someone posted the vinegar/HP tip in the first post.
********* oh and for cleaning in the kitchen I keep two bottles - one of vinegar with lime EO (my favorite scent) and another larger 32 oz bottle of hydrogen peroxide. The hydrogen peroxide bottle is the original bottle and I remove the cap and swap it out for a spray bottle attachment since the HP has to be in a dark bottle to retain its potency. To disinfect, just spray vinegar first, then HP. Wipe away. I also slosh a good bit of each into the produce wash water and let it soak for a non toxic alternative. I also use the bottles for most household cleaning.

Re: Natural Cleaning Recipes
OK, I've made the laundry detergent with castille soap, washing soda, borax and even put in some OxyClean. Still.....my clothes are not coming out clean! Clothes that I've been wearing and washing for a year in Tide now are stained. Even some clothes I just bought a month ago that go something on it are stained. My husband even put that Shout gel which we have been using for years onto a spill on his pants and after I washed them......still there!
What am I doing wrong? Could it be our water?

Re: Natural Cleaning Recipes
I had a similar experience...my dishes wouldn't come clean with homemade dish powder, either. I found a really good deal on super-concentrated liquid laundry detergent...it's in the basement right now, though, so I can't check it out because the cats are locked down there for the night! But I did the mental math and it costs *less* per load than conventional laundry detergent, and it works well and smells good. Remind me and I will get the name of it!

Re: Natural Cleaning Recipes
This thread is so long I have absolutely no idea how to see if this has been said before. But I use vinegar/Tea Tree EO/Lavender EO/water to wash everything (the recipe that was given earlier). However, it was not removing the soap/dirt scum. All I did to remove soap scum was wipe a generous amount of baking soda over the scum (wiped because it's hard to "sprinkle" on the sides ), and immediately the scum wipes completely off! Baking soda is "cleaning gold"! (I still use the vinegar/EO mix to disinfect.)

Re: Natural Cleaning Recipes
So I was looking for an alternative to my Pledge wood cleaner. I noticed one on the OP with Olive Oil. Is there a specific type, extra virgin vs other? And I was wondering if it took awhile before I'd be able to put knick knacks and things back onto the wood since it's, well, oily?

Homemade Cleaner recipes
While browsing blogs tonight I ran across some awesome looking recipes for making your own cleaners! They are much different the cleaner I make. I usually just use warm water, vinegar and some TTO. But these seem like they would work better and not smell like vinegar so bad! Check it out!
Surface Cleaner: 2 Tbsp of Lemon Juice 10 – 15 drops of lavender essential oil Fill bottle almost full with warm water add 2 Tbsp of Dr. Bronner’s Glass Cleaner: 1/2 cup vinegar 10 – 15 drops of lavender essential oil Fill bottle almost full with warm water add 1 Tbsp of Dr. Bronner’s Bathroom Cleaner: 4 Tbsp Lemon Juice 2 Tsp Baking Soda 10 drops of lavender essential oil Fill bottle almost full with warm water add 2 Tbsp of Dr. Bronner’s Found on this blog http://designisournature.wordpress.com/ |
