Re: In your experience...alt cell carriers
Since I started the thread, I'll update.
We went with Cricket, figuring that an alt. carrier owned by AT&T would be the safest non-AT&T choice. It's perfect, no complaints. Thankfully my phone is fairly new & came unlocked from Verizon, so switching over couldn't have been easier. I appreciated having a physical store to go to for the switch.

Re: In your experience...alt cell carriers
Xfinity mobile sounds like something I should look into. Although I'm the one who hasn't linked my account so I can use the Xfinity WiFi.

Re: In your experience...alt cell carriers
I'm pretty sure I'm switching to Total Wireless. I'll save $20 a month on a package for myself and my daughter and have more data. We can use our existing phones. I'll set aside that $20 so we can eventually buy new phones that are compatible with Google Fi. My phone is old but G's is pretty new so I don't want to buy new phones yet.

Re: In your experience...alt cell carriers
I'm really tempted to switch to one of these. But, we have been with T-Mobile for like 17 years. I hate to give up our perks, iykwim. Is it worth it?

What perks do you have that you'd have to give up?

Re: In your experience...alt cell carriers
T Mobile is supposed to be the best of the big names as far as value. They don't have good coverage in my area otherwise I'd consider T Mobile.. Have you shopped the alt carriers to see if it's even a better deal?

Re: In your experience...alt cell carriers
I'm not sure what are considered perks anymore. We pay $141/month for 4 lines. We are still paying for dd16's phone. $6/month included in above amount. We have unlimited texting/talking and 3GB data/month. The amount seems high but I know other carriers like Verizon are much higher in our area.
I think Cricket & Republic Wireless are the most popular local knock-offs.

Re: In your experience...alt cell carriers
3 GB data to share among 4 lines?
With Total Wireless you can get 4 lines, unlimited talk/text, and 25 GB for $95/month with auto-refill and no contract. https://www.totalwireless.com/serviceplan?session=reset You can call your current carrier and ask them if they can get you a better deal, otherwise you're leaving. |

Re: In your experience...alt cell carriers
3GB per line
I will look into that. I'll be honest. Some of my hesitancy is not understanding what we need/have and making sure I get what we need. Too many new tricks for this old lady.

Re: In your experience...alt cell carriers
I guess I will check again when they accept bring-your-own Android, not just iPhone. Or when my current phone dies. Might tell DH to look into it though.

I asked about the Android thing. It's the manufacturer, not Xfinity.

Re: In your experience...alt cell carriers
We have 5 lines for $100 unlimited talk text and data.
At the time it was as follows 1st line 40 2nd 30 3rd 20 4th 10 5+ Free Since we had 5 people we snagged five. I’m not sure they still have that plan but our total bill for the month is including all taxes fees and everything for $100. We’ve had it for years. No contract. Android or iPhone.

Re: In your experience...alt cell carriers
Verizon towers provide the only reliable service where I live, unless you stay in town all the time. So the super awesome deals aren't available to me. Except Google Fi. But I'd have to buy a different phone. I'm leaning toward a used LG. But, for now, I'm switching to Total Wireless because they use Verizon towers and our Samsung phones are compatible.
If you live in a metro area, you should be able to get a great deal with all the competition. ---------- Post added at 10:11 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:10 AM ---------- Quote:
---------- Post added at 10:18 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:11 AM ---------- Verizon is beta testing a new discount plan with unlimited talk, text, and data for $40/month for the first line. I don't remember what the costs are for each additional line. It's currently for iPhone only but they plan to add Android soon. https://www.visible.com Last edited by Soliloquy; 06-06-2018 at 10:20 AM. |
