Re: Christmas
We got our tree up yesterday and decorated. Did a bit of a natural minimalist to hint this year around the house. I needed a little change after basically the same decor for a decade.
We are going to a local historic site to do a photo shoot today that will wrap up with carols and a lights display at the same location. I am really looking forward to it. This is the first year in over a decade that my husband has been home and fully engaged for the holiday. He would get so burnt out and cynical from his other job that it really dampens his holiday spirit. |

Re: Christmas
We always struggle to walk what seems like a fine line between celebrating and being festive and letting everyone get overwhelmed. This weekend we bought an artificial tree for the first time in our marriage. I had a simple artificial one from my single days that we used our first few years of marriage and then when it broke we started getting fresh trees. The last two years I felt like my eyes were always itching from the fresh tree so we found what I think is a pretty nice artificial one. It was way easier to assemble than I remember them being. I tried to prepare my children that it would take awhile and it took less than 30 minutes It used to be you did then branch by branch. Today I did outdoor lights, the upper level I did from the inside, I don't do well on tall ladders and neither does DH.

Re: Christmas
So the park didn't have the lights hours on their website. They shut down between regular park hours and light show hours. We couldn't cover the gap in time so we skipped the lights. The park is really pretty tho and I took some photos I will be using as decoration in my house.

Re: Christmas
That looks fantastic Angela. I must admit I prefer artificial trees to fresh trees. I'll try and get some pics tomorrow. Our car died, again, this morning. and the garage can't figure out why. It's working again! It was -8 this morning though so I think the cold is the culprit.

Re: Christmas
I miss my childhood one branch at a time artificial tree. It was so pretty! I always had fun putting it together. We have a pretty nice one that MIL left with us after moving out to a smaller place. It is in three pieces but the branches have to be fluffed out each time. The pre strung lights worked for one, maybe two years. But we just put strings over those and it works.
I am setting a deadline to get some tax/aca work finished before being allowed to plan caroling for this year almost done!
