We have a chiweenie (Chihuahua/Dachshund) puppy who is also adorable. Don't know anyone else with a cocker pug.

Here's another link. I am going to see them the week after next. The owner is in the middle of moving house. They wouldn't be to leave mama till 1st week in Jan at earliest.

http://www.luckypug.com/information/...el-cocker-pug/

Dh is worried about the potty training side of it since Naomi is starting to crawl. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I have looked into obedience classes and insurance would be about £12 a month so I'd just pay it in one go rather than a monthly payment.

Dh has said if we don't do it this time then he will commit to us getting one next year at this time or thereabouts. I sprung this on him a bit I love pugs and so does he and saw these pups quite by chance. He's very methodical and is thinking through the logistics. At first he said he didn't think it was a great idea (because he was so taken aback at my message telling him about them) then he researched and everything. We spoke about it all last night. I know he thinks if he says no he will let me down so to speak which isn't the case, I know he'd only say no if he really felt I couldn't handle it or the kids couldn't or something, he loves dogs.

Spaniels are adorable but mental. I don't know how being diluted with pug affects it, but when we got Sky I was not prepared for how bat poop crazy she would be. Think '3 year old on steroids'.

Not wanting to be a downer but I would be extremely cautious of any spaniel type dog as a beginner. The size of your house and garden and the ability to goon crazy long walks to wear the little terror out dependant obv

From everything I have read cocker pugs were bred to be companions and are very trainable and excellent with children, they are apparently very patient with them.

King Charles Spaniels are excellent companions. I would not say that Cocker Spaniels are the same personality wise- at least the ones I know. I think I've read before that they were overbred at one point in history and tend to be kind of squirrelly as a result.

I'm not disputing that they can be great with kids, our Sky loves the kids and is incredibly patient, even when my niece fell on her and pulled out two handfuls of fur. Then did it again to show us what happened.

My point was that they are very high maintainance. They are too smart for their own good. Which makes them trainable, but they get bored easily and are very needy. A bored spaniel will make their own entertainment any way they can. Barking and chewing socks/clothes pegs/plastic baby toys are Sky's go-tos. We are forever buying socks. I am sure that if I had the time and energy I could train her out of these habits, but with kids and life, I just don't. When she gets two LONG (hour+) walks a day she is much better, but again, life. Also, she does has two speeds; warp factor 9, and asleep. She's like a furry whirl wind.

Again, I'm not trying to put you off. I love our girlie to bits, but I was not prepared for how much WORK she would be.

The puppy would only be half cocker, the laid back nature of the pug reins in a lot of the cocker enthusiasm in the cross breeds apparently. I'll be able to see both mom and dad so I'll have a good idea after that.
