Dominican mission work...

So I'm gauging interest here. My church has started doing missions for the people of the dominican republic. The first year they helped rebuild a church and the second year they taught people of that church and the community how to build water purifiers. This year the women of my church are making cloth diapers, cloth pads and crocheted tampons to bring to the women there. I wondered if anybody would be interested in crafting along and sending those items to be distributed? I'm one of two who are crocheting the tampons and I'm abysmally slow!

I can do a single or double crochet, bit haven't advanced beyond that.

I made a few scarves years ago. What skill level and supplies are required for tampons?

Do you have a pattern for crocheting tampons? I sponsor a child there and we have a group going there this month so I have a vested interest.

I'm trying to follow this pattern. But I'm terrible at it so far lol

The other person doing this said it's basically single crochet 3.5 to 4 inch by 6-8 inch rectangles with a long tail on the short side. But I've been terrible at making rectangles lol, I'm really good at triangles! :P

Have you been using unbleached cotton yarn or hemp? Trying to decide what to use...

I'm using unbleached cotton, though I was reading hemp or bamboo would be better, I just haven't seen that in my local craft stores.
