Default Looking for a Financial Teaching tool for kids....

Hey,

Dh and I want to teach our kidlets early on the importance of tithing, saving and spending the money they've earned. We feel if it's taught early it won't be something they struggle with when they are older.

Does anyone know of a fun, Christian, financial teaching tool/program for kids? I've looked around a little and haven't been able to find what we're looking for.

Ideas?

Oh, also for the future, something that will teach Christian concepts to teens on finances, debt, credit cards, check books, etc.

I'm not usually a big fan of Larry Burkette's stuff but we bought his bank for my DD when she was 3 and started giving her a weekly allowance of $1/year of age. It is a bank that looks like a city block. It has a church, a bank and a store and you split out the money between the three categories. Since it had 3 buildings and she had 3 dollars we started out spliting the money 1 dollar to each category. As she got older and her "income" increased she could choose to put more than that but always 1 dollar to each category. The rest she often spent and we have found that she spends the "store" money not on herself (that's what she spends the money she keeps out on) but for gifts for family and friends at Christmas and other holidays. Any Christian bookstore would have the bank and I think www.christianbook.com online has it too.

Clark Howard has a money management book for kids too -- he is a very down to earth type person!

I was going to suggest the Larry Burkett bank as well. I think it's called "My Giving Bank". We don't actually have one yet, but it looks like a really great way to teach kids how to save, how to tithe, etc. I've seen them on ebay as well.

My dh and I took a Crown Financial course about 2 yrs ago and learned alot from it. They have programs/workbooks for children and teens also.

Great suggestions everyone! I really like the idea of the visual tool by Larry Burkett.
