Pertussis in the Neighborhood
So....2 4th graders have confirmed cases of Pertussis. They are not in Braeburns class but have likely passed it around. Braeburn was fully vaxed up to age 3. Mac is fully vaxed up to age 1 Honey and Jubilee are not vaxed at all. I am due in 6weeks.
How concerned should I be that Pertussis is in my little town? |

Re: Pertussis in the Neighborhood
Personally I would start immune boosting and loading vitamin c (sodium ascorbate) in the kids. When the baby comes be fussy about guests - anyone who has been sick needs to be symptom free for days, no lingering coughs whatsoever, no matter how minor. I don't trust the vax to protect anyone really or prevent transmission, so when I know it's going around we just exercise more caution.

Re: Pertussis in the Neighborhood
Loads of hand washing, zinc and D for everyone! Dittoing the pickiness about who baby is passed to. I plan on being the crazy post-partum lady who lets no one touch the bambino until spring, lol. Make yourself aware of the signs and symptoms, too, because it's trestable when caught early and is a pain in the rear, but much more manageable when caught right away.

Re: Pertussis in the Neighborhood
Yeah my shopping list for next week includes immune boosting supplements. Our Family Doc will be good about getting us out of the waiting room ASAP for new baby appts. Hand washing is tricky because my kids have dry/sensitive skin...too much washing and they start leaving bloody fingerprints here and there.
