Default Sick kids and low on food

what should I make for dinner?

the ND suggested feeding them high protien, easily digestble food. She suggested no wheat or beans until the are all the way better. In the house I have: a head of cabbage, one llek, some spinach, onions, garlic, lentils, rice, split peas. plus spices and condiments and flours and other baking needs.

Any ideas?

I'd think rice and soup (split pea soup) or rice and sauteed veggies. Why high protein? High protein can actually be a BAD thing.
Is your ND a veg? Why No beans? Are the peas and lentils considered "beans"?

Thanks for your response. split peas and qinoa is what we ended up having.

the ND actually said the boys are growing and the need lots of proyien and I should feed them chicken I explained that we eat beans and whole grains and lentils and veggies and fruit and nuts adn she still recomended chicken.

They are sick with a cold, Eli ended up with two ear infections but Joey is pretty much back to normal.

I'm pretty new to veggie eating and it is a choice more from a financial standpoint than and ideolical one at this point. If it would have been convient to get some good quality chicken I would have, but it was not convient.

Do you think she was wrong? Should I find someone else?

Well, that depends on how you voiced your food choice concerns. If you were doubtful and sounded doubtful when you said that you are eating veggie and not meat, then I would say she's just telling you what she thinks is best. However, if you expressed to her that you are making a lifestyle change to healthier eating and she was still persisitent in saying you should give him chicken I would be and say that was wrong. And, I would probably not go to an ND who isn't vegan- because it's a totally different world view and they will view health differently than a vegan would- and they would make suggestions for things I would not be interested in.
Since they don't have a stomach bug, I see nothing wrong with giving them beans- plant foods are MUCH healthier for anybody- sick or well, than animal foods which are actually harder for the body to digest and harder for the body to assimilate as useful minerals/vitamins/proteins/etc. I could understand avoiding too many veggies with a stomach flu or other stomach/intestinal problem but not a cold or ear infection. Veggie broths should be soothing- just a chicken broth would be. For future reference there are un-chicken broths you could keep on hand for soups for illness. I hope Eli feels much better soon. Did she tell you to do a nasal wash with him? I know that using Xylitol as a nasal wash prevents bacteria from sticking to the nasal passages- and when I had an inner ear infection my symptoms were relieved when I used Xlear which has Xylitol in it. It's a bit expensive, but really helped. Also, I'd try garlic oil in his ears if he has any discomfort from the infections. Others also use GSE for ear drops- but that really hurts *my* ears so I don't use it. HTH And

thank you! I thought the same thing about plants being easier than meat, but like you said, I sounded doubtful. I do love those un-chicken broths and I did end up giving him some I made with a veggie broth powder.

Eli is much better today. I am using, on the nd's recomendation, glycerite, pulsatilla abd colloidal silver in his ears.
