Yay!!! Got to encourage someone in AP yesterday!!!
Yesterday at church I had the opportunity to encourage a new mom who had lots of questions for me re: breastfeeding (I used to be a breastfeeding counselor with a group in my area), and she ended up asking me what I thought of Babywise....of course I wasted no time in telling her how I really feel about it (I wouldn't use his methods on my dog, let alone my child!). She seemed so relieved to have someone tell her it's okay to listen to her instincts and not some man wholly unconnected to her and her baby, and that it is okay to watch her baby and not the clock. It felt so good to encourage her, which is such a burden of mine - to encourage new mothers to follow that instinct that God gave them for their baby!
This was so timely too as I was just e-mailing with my pastor about the copy of Babywise that is in our church library. To make a long story short, he and his wife (a sweet, gentle woman) have soon-to-be 8 kids and are Babywise followers. He says that he is aware of Ezzo's problems, but believes that Babywise has some great advice and you don't have to throw the baby out with the bath water. He even said that Babywise was a lifesavor for his wife and they would have stopped at 2 children if not for the advice in Babywise!!! (So I guess his other 6 children are thanks to Ezzo and not God?!! ) But this is a story for another day as this situation really upsets me. Otherwise our pastor is great. I don't see how someone who has such a great understanding of scripture (he does!) can be so clueless in this area. But I digress.... Anyway, I wanted to share my happiness about this. It was nice to be able to share with someone and to get some credit for knowing something...after all I am a mother of 5 children...I think I know a little something about infant care even without Ezzo!
