Re: Kindergarden math....
Math mammoth is like Singapore but cheaper I think. Both are mastery, not spiral. They work on one skill at a time. Then have review sections. I think either of these would work best for what you've said. Math mammoth doesn't have the separate text and workbook. Everything is on one book. Although Singapore's early bird math is unlike their elementary levels and doesn't have separate books.

Re: Kindergarden math....
I used Saxon Math with my oldest. My youngest would have been miserable with that. He's very bright but wasn't academically mature enough for Saxon until about 5th grade at which point he was 2 years ahead of his grade. I only mention that because we didn't totally mess him up by doing what we actually did which was ...
playing Monopoly. Every day, we played Monopoly. I don't even like the game, but he loved it and *wanted* to do it. His math skills and facts became fast and ingrained in weeks of the math required to play the game. My oldest and I really got a lot out of Saxon math -- all the way from K through Calculus this year. My youngest doesn't love it, but he's doing well. peace, tessiemae |

Re: Kindergarden math....
We use Singapore Essentials. The workbooks are only $10 each on RR. (with one of my kids I skipped book A because she was fine to start with B) It just calls for household items if you want to do the extra activities.

Re: Kindergarden math....
I'm doing Miquon for the second time around with dd2. I've LOVED it both times. It's gentle, can be spiral or mastery (you can go from the front of the workbook to the back, which would be spiral, or you can do color coded sections for a mastery approach) it doesn't have 'lesson plans' so you just work at your child's pace, and the only extras I use are a small set of C rods that fit in a pencil box. I found multiple copies of the entire set of the workbooks for free-$.50 at our curriculum sale, so I bought them all plus the C rods for under $5. The only other things you'd need, to teach YOU the method are Notes To Teachers, and the First Grade Diary, which gives you a year of examples of what it looks like in a classroom.
I love that it explores complex topics so early-by first grade, they are doing the four operations and fractions. After finishing the six workbooks (2 per grade, starting in first. Many people, including myself do one in K, one in first, and two for second and third grades) my dd9 was ready to go straight into Beast Academy, which I consider to be a pretty difficult curriculum. Miquon prepares them for solving difficult math problems using logic and critical thinking skills. Looking at the pages for the first time, it seems very simple and even has a 'homemade' feel...don't let that fool you! It truly is wonderful. Also there is a mom who has made a lot of videos using the Miquon method that may help you get a feel for how it works. Even getting a set of c rods and doing some of these would be fantastic for a K year. http://www.educationunboxed.com Good luck!
