Parenting workshop
I would like to have a parenting workshop at the school I do social work at. I'm trying to find some resources that would be fun and useful-any suggestions?
I'd like to do something personality-based, that way advertising it won't make people feel like they should only come if they need help parenting. I feel like a fun, figure out if your kid is an x, y or z personality might come across as more of a fun activity instead of a lecture. This is a low-income school and there definitely needs to be some non-punitive tools put into our parent's hands. |

Re: Parenting workshop
What about the Jane nelson positive discipline materials, especially the 'wheel of choice'. Giving kids tools to solve some of their own problems. You could get a big poster printed out. What funds do you have to organise it, could you give them a laminated poster of the wheel each to take home?

Re: Parenting workshop
I also think the love languages are really important, plus you can talk about discipline in that punishment goes against the languages, so using a child's love language to 'discipline' gives a very different message to the child than the adult thinks... Kids get the opposite message to love. That's another way of dealing with the punishment problem.
Also: here's the wheel of choice info. http://blog.positivediscipline.com/2...of-choice.html It's good because it helps put problem solving back with children, empowering them to decide how to solve their problems rather than adults acting as referee and dispensing justice etc which drives most people crazy and parents fall into the trap of controlling everything. Another reason the Jane nelson stuff is good is that there's a lot about family meetings, talking about problems etc. and it's used by teachers as well as parents. So it's a good resource to be recommending in a school environment, for parents to use those kinds of of tools and solutions at home. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
