Re: Beutifully Modest Girls, support thread
Lexie just outgrew a jumper that was a different fabric but similar cut, it was one of her favorites and I thought very appropriate for a 10/11 yr old

Re: Beutifully Modest Girls, support thread
I'm one of those who absolutely couldn't pull off that look I mean...I'm a T3. I used to have to wear that look (imagine sticking a 15 year old tomboy in that?!) and it was horrid.
But, I have friends who even now wear similar styles, and it fits with their soft-spoken, gentle natures I'm a big fan of dressing for your personality, and that is why it's good to hear mamas talking about honouring that for their children I'm also a big believer that stylish is what you make it...confidence will let you carry off something that isn't right on trend. I got really sick of being asked if I was Amish but when you are dressed in something that you feel great in, it doesn't matter if it's trendy Current century is always a good look to aim for As soon as I was old enough to buy my own clothing, I began buying things and piecing together outfits that met the church's requirement, and yet I wasn't immediately pegged as "religious" by people who didn't know I went to church |

Re: Beutifully Modest Girls, support thread
If modesty is about coverage only in your family, may I suggest my daughter's favorite style? All princess, all the time. The longer the skirt, the better. Bonus points for a cape. However if you are also wanting to not draw a lot of attention as part of the modesty business, it may not be right for your family.

On the other hand, as parents we do sometimes have to set limits, my 5 year old would still run around naked if I'd let her, and does, in the house sometimes . . . so our rule is, if you're naked nobody but our immediate family can see you, which means if you're in the living room and someone knocks on the door, you have to run up to your room and either stay there or put clothes on while someone else answers the door When we went to Goodwill earlier this week, Ashlyn and I pulled TONS of dresses for Lexie to try on. Ashlyn's sworn up and down that she wears skirts, not dresses (except for dressy dresses for church) since she was 6 or 7 but she found a couple dresses that she loved and she's wearing one now. It's very her, and would look odd on Lexie . . . everyone should have their own style!

Dh jokes that is the homeschool mom uniform... or it was when we were kids...scrunchie socks over the tights, loafer type shows, and a jumper like that with buttons to display both the fact that you sewed the jumper yourself and you like scrapbooking or gardening. warm memories. And you know, minus the scrunchie socks I still know a few people who wear this, and it seems normal to me, it's who they are. dh says since I home school I should find myself one and make it official. I dislike wearing skirts, I feel weighted down and I trip a lot. I am picky about pants in general, they have to be comfortable, stay up ,and not draw my underwear down underneath and feel flattering- hard combination.

Re: Beutifully Modest Girls, support thread
It's funny, those type of skirts (the patchwork one) are really easy to make out of jeans. I've even done one and I have the sewing skills of a monkey .

Re: Beutifully Modest Girls, support thread
I'm really curious what people mean when they say certain styles are too grown up for kids... I can't picture it

Business suit? J/k? I think of things meant to support breasts that do not exist.

While I don't necessarily think it's always bad, I get the sentiment a bit. My sister was here a few weeks ago and my dd borrowed a dress from her dd. Totally covered everything like a tee shirt and knee length dress would, but it definitely made her look older and dh wasn't a huge fan. While I understood it, I think it was ok for her to wear it. I'd post a pic as an example but it's a public forum.

Target for example has pleather black mini skirts. I definitely wouldn't want my preschooler wearing it or an early grade school girl. The material nor the style is young, both scream teenage outfit shrunk down. I would have no issue with a longer more fluid black skirt though as I think that better supports the movement of a young girl, and has a more innocent vibe even when paired with a more punk type shirt if that is the family's style. I guess I would rather someone think my little girl, or boy for that matter, looks adorable for her age not oh look at so and so she looks like 8 going on 16 (this is becoming a more popular thing to laugh at how much older the kids are now).
