which one do you get more use out of?
Dh asked me yesterday what I wanted for Christmas. I told him either a stand mixer or a food processor. But now I don't know which I would get more use out of.
I have a hand mixer but I like the idea of just dropping ingredients into a bowel and letting it do it for me. I think I would be doing more baking if I had a stand mixer. But what do GCM do with food processors? I told dh that I thought I could make baby food with the processor but now I don't know if you can. I have a hand crank baby food mill that will make 2 tablespoons at a time of baby food. |

Re: which one do you get more use out of?
Ooo, that's a hard choice! But what a sweet hubby I have both - and yes, I got the food processor for making baby food (get the book "Super Baby Food" by Ruth Yaron ) - and if I had to sacrifice one, it would be the food processor. Nothing beats a stand mixer in my book. My mom always had a Kitchen Aid mixer & I can't imagine trying to make anything besides a boxed mix with a hand mixer Just imagine - double batches of cookies & your arm won't get sore from moving the mixer blades through all the dough!
You could also buy a mini food processor if you decide to do baby food; it would just make smaller batches. |

Re: which one do you get more use out of?
I made plenty of baby food with my food processor. That's very doable. I'm afraid I can't add much more to the discussion as I don't have a stand mixer (I wish I did though). I use my food processor quite a bit... to make hummus and filling for roll-ups. I chop and grate veggies and cheese with it, too. ~HTH

The mixer. You can use it for years and years. You'll only make baby food for a short time. And you don't even have to make baby food. I just gave my babies real food from the start. And you said you have a baby food maker already.

I never use my food processor, but I use my mixer all the time. I use my blender for things some people would use a food processor for.

Re: which one do you get more use out of?
I don't own a real food processor. I shred cheese by hand and chop veggies by hand. The only thing I'd probably use a food processor for is to evenly slice something. IMO, it's just more stuff to wash. A knife and board wash up easier than all those nooks and crannies in the food processor.
I do, however, own a KitchenAid mixer that I use at least once a week. I use it to mix cookies, bread/rolls, pumpkin pie filling, whatever! Love it! I used my blender or this tiny Cuisinart chopper/food processor?(blade is on the bottom like a coffee grinder) to do baby food .

Re: which one do you get more use out of?
I would definitely prefer the stand mixer. I get my food processor out when I'm cooking bulk meals; otherwise I use a knife and a cutting board.
AFA baby food, I had a VERY small stick blender with a mini processor on it when dd was young. I still have it, actually; it worked very well. I've seen them in stores for $30 or so. Ds did NOT like his food pureed. He didn't want solids til he had enough teeth to eat small pieces of food. |

So far it seems like the mixer is winning here.
Where do you get a mini processor? I used to make cheesecake alot before but got tired of crushing the graham crackers by hand. Which of these would do the trick in this case? |

Get a stand mixer w/a grating attachement...I love my KA. I use it to grate cheese all the time as well as normal mixing.
I am getting a stick blender for christmas for baby food or soups, etc.

This attachement goes on the front of the machine
http://www.amazon.com/KitchenAid-RVS...959442&sr=8-18 There are a bunch of accesories you can get for KA....an ice cream maker bowl, a meat grinder, pasta maker. It turns into a lot of things. I use the grater a lot.

Re: which one do you get more use out of?
walmart has these
http://www.walmart.com/search/search....y=0&Find=Find is this too little to spend on one or is it better to spend $300.00 on one? I would rather spend less but if it means that it won't work as well then I would rather spend a little more on something that I know I will use more then once a couple months. |

Re: which one do you get more use out of?
I would vote for the stand mixer as well. There are lots of nice attachments like the previous posters mentioned, I love the cheese grater one! I also sort of use mine as a bread maker, well, except for the baking part of course, it stirs and kneads very nicely. Also they last forever, whereas food processors seem to break after a couple of years (at least mine have). The one negative is that it is so heavy it pretty much has to sit on your counter which can be challenging when you are low on space.
