New modem/router... parental controls
We have a new qwest modem/router. It isn't seem to have the same parental controls that my netgear did. (they wanted $60 to reset it.. ...thus our purchasing a new one instead)
anyone have any ideas on how to find them for this new one? It said it had them..but I can't find them... actontec pk5000 |

Re: New modem/router... parental controls
let me check and get back to you
---------- Post added at 07:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:39 PM ---------- Try this: Default IP address: 192.168.0.1 (this is the address to type into your web browser) Default admin username: admin Default admin password: <blank> If that logs you in, take a look around and see if you can locate the firewall settings. It should be similar to your old router. If that doesn't log you in, you'll need to call your ISP. |

Re: New modem/router... parental controls
Try calling the manufacturer. Their website is very vague, but it does say in the specs that it has a firewall and capability of blocking specific sites. The thing with that is it is a 2 wire gateway, and I really haven't worked with them much. Did you have a separate modem/router before? If Qwest sold the thing to you, they should give you some troubleshooting support. Try calling and asking for a tier 2 or tier 3 tech support person.

Re: New modem/router... parental controls
yes I will try that.
I can add websites... but the key there is that I have to know what to add. With the netgear I could set levels and it just covered most stuff... I could also set a timer for different levels... like max levels between 11pm-7am... while people are sleeping... in case someone was to try and get on while we were sleeping. I didn't notice that I can block instant chat features which is interesting... |

Re: New modem/router... parental controls
Yeah, I love Netgear. Worst case scenario, can you return this one and get another Netgear?

Re: New modem/router... parental controls
yes maybe. This does seem to run better than the netgear and am really irritated that they wouldn't help me set up the old one w/o charging me an arm and a leg for it.
