Default Lap Books

Okay, this is probably a really dumb question....

What is a lap book?

I was reading another site where she was all about making lap books with her kids, but I couldn't quite work out what they were.

I have wondered this, too.

A lapbook is a "book" of sorts created by a student (often with the direction of a teacher or parent) that reinforces what the student has been learning about. It can be ANY topic. (right now we're doing on on the Olympic Games). Often it is simply a file folder (or a couple glued together) folded to make a book - and inside are smaller flap books or shutter books with information in them actually pasted to the inside of the folder - it looks like a mini science project board when it's done. It's purposes are to help reinforce the topic, aid in learning, make something more hands-on for a tactile learner, be fun, be a lasting reminder, etc.

Here are some links that may help make that clearer.

So I thought, that'd be a good project to start w/ dd 5 yo. I asked her what topic she'd like to learn about.

She said Princesses. That's great, but it's really hard to find any non-fiction info about princesses.

I'm starting to realize some of the advantages to boys.

Glad I could help
I think, if you do some searching, you'd find LOTS Of non-fiction information about REAL princesses! The library, online and even paper dolls of real princesses (some in their native-to-country dresses!)

Thanks ScrappyKnits for the links!

I suppose I was just frustrated that I couldn't find much info from the library. Also, if she had chosen Orcas I would have been better able to help her make a lap book on the subject. My mind isn't organizing anything on princesses at the present.
