How will she behave (Classical Conversations related)
Nervous about a CC Practicum we are going to this summer. DD is 7 and recently dx'd w/ High Functioning Autism. Went to VBS earlier this year and she ran into trouble with some of the other kids , some girls her age were a little clique-ish and gossipy and upset her and she didn't behave stellarly, lets just put it that way. Wondering if there are others who have put their autistic children in CC. (We are planning to keep her in PS but she is attending the Practicum).

Re: How will she behave (Classical Conversations related)
I'm not sure what you're asking. Are you concerned about her attending the 3-day practicum or are you re-thinking your plan to keep her in PS next school year? The 2 are entirely different scenarios.
I consider the time at the practicum to be like any other Christian day camp. If this is your concern, can you consider another option for her care while you attend the practicum? AFA, putting her in CC for the school year . . . I have a close friend who has her child in CC. She stays with him in the class 99% of the time. Since most CC families have more than one child enrolled, other parents pitch in & help out the kids who don't have a parent in class.

Re: How will she behave (Classical Conversations related)
My children didn't like the other kids that were at the practicum the one time I took them. My youngest that has sensory issues struggled. Fortunately the workers were understanding and let my oldest sit with the youngest in his class.
Do you have other childcare options? I know childcare can be difficult to get.

Re: How will she behave (Classical Conversations related)
I ended up putting her in the regular camp with her age group. she did pretty well. I just had to be called one time for a little situation that took place. The kids were much better to her than at VBS.
Sorry I did not make my orig. question clear. I was just asking about the practicum. thanks for the input~! another quesiton: has anybody ever gone to a practicum (CC) and felt that maybe just maybe this kind of homeschooling can't work for you because there seems to be an implied 'children must be spanked' mentality? eta: maybe it's bcuz I live in an area that is heavily under the influence of John MacArthur. I came away today thinking I don't know if I can do this. I don't have my children's compliance down yet. ---------- Post added at 04:56 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:58 AM ---------- Quote:

Re: How will she behave (Classical Conversations related)
Spanking was never an issue for us. The local group we were in was small, only 4 families. I live in a very rural area. I hope all works out for you!

Re: How will she behave (Classical Conversations related)
i havn't been to a practicum yet, but we did CC this past year. i didn't see any issues with spanking at all. we had about 10 families/25 kids. i didn't really talk with the other moms about their discipline at home, but i my dc did fine in their class. i like that the parent is in the class with them. in fact, we had several compliments on their "good behavior." I wish i would have had some good responses that would indicate we don't spank, but again, it was never brought up directly.
