Singapore as a supplement?
We are using MEP, and I love the problem solving approach and everything about it so far. But I also love what I've heard about Singapore and the number sense it gives kids and the different waysof attacking a problem and the bar method of problem solving. .. I'm too much of a cheapskate to pay for Singapore when there's a fantastic approach available for free, and some Singapore concepts are covered in MEP anyway, maybe more than I'm aware ... but I'm wondering if there's a way I could add in a bit of Singapore on the side, to get the best of both worlds? For example, is there a teachers manual or workbook with worked answers that I could use once a week? (At present my DS is starting MEP year 3 and miss muffet is halfway through year 1)

Re: Singapore as a supplement?
We used Singapore's challenging word problems as a supplement while we finished Miquon. The problems are quite challenging; the more difficult ones have worked solutions in the back. It's possible to teach yourself how to use the bar diagram method of solving from looking at those, but challenging for you too. The explanation of the method is in the teacher's manual which is probably what you're reluctant to spend money on.
Another option would be to buy a level used from homeschool classifieds--much cheaper there, especially if you wait for a HIG/textbook bundle (it's often only about $15ppd for the home instructors guide and textbook--non-consumable--for half a year). Then you could try out the method and see what you think.

Re: Singapore as a supplement?
I was looking at Singapore as a supplement to Miquon but ended up with Mammoth Math.
It gets reviewed favorably compared to Singapore and is much much cheaper.
