DPN's
I am still trying to build up my stash of needles and trying to do it on the cheap. Has anybody tried the cheap bamboo sets on Ebay/Amazon that ship from china? All the name brand sets are pretty expensive and I know they are going to get lost eventually. I've finished off a few projects on the cheap aluminum ones from walmart and they kill my hands.

I'm wondering about bamboo ones as well.

Re: DPN's
Magic loop. You can do anything on a 40" circular, so an interchangeable set, like knitpicks, gets you most needles you need for knitting straight or in the round, for $50ish total. My only complaint is no 16" length for hats, bit those can be knit magic loop too.

Re: DPN's
No need to be scared of it - if you can knit with a porcupine, you can definitely knit ML
That being said, I picked up some of the bamboo DPN's for my FIL, and bamboo straights for my MIL - and both of them said they feel great on their arthritic hands. My MIL likes the bamboo better than the rosewood ones I also got her. |

Re: DPN's
I got some of the cheap cable needle sets from e-bay - the long ones to do magic loop, which I did not know how to do before. It was not too difficult to figure out how to do magic loop. If I can do it, anyone can. That being said, the cheap needles are - cheap. They are ok and usable, but are definitely cheap. One day, when I can afford it, I plan to buy some nice ones. I find magic loop much easier to deal with than DPNs and more portable as well.

Re: DPN's
Thanks everybody. I went ahead and made an order for both some cheap dpn's and cheap 40" circulars in a few sizes. I was waiting to try magic loop until until I could afford some nicer circulars, I was worried the cheap cords wouldn't hold up too long with all the bending and twisting necessary to do magic loop. I still plan to buy a nice set after Christmas, but at least these will allow me to play until then.
I did splurge and buy them from an American seller so I wouldn't have to wait weeks for shipping, but they were still very cheap. There are supposed to be here by friday

Re: DPN's
Magic loop rocks. It's fiddly at first, but much less fiddly than dpns IMHO. If you decide you don't want to try it, I have several sets of dpns that I will likely never use. (If you're interested, you can message me, idk if I'm allowed to say that here?)

Re: DPN's
I think magic loop is a useful skill but give me dpn's any day much faster and smoother - for me at least but I know I am in the minority.
I am glad you got needles to play with.
