Green smoothie combo ideas needed
We are about to come into an abundance of spring greens again... I thought I might try the green smoothies I see you all writing about. Can you share some of your favorite combinations with me? (We are gluten free, but do enjoy dairy!)

Re: Green smoothie combo ideas needed
I made one the other night it had milk, frozen banana, frozen blueberries, cherry yogurt, a pear, and spinach in it. It was really good!

The basic one mentuoned is a family favorite. STick to the simple stuff at first..
Your greens, water, frozen fruit, and banana to sweeten. Of course if you have an over abundance of greens, make yourself some raw soups. |

Re: Green smoothie combo ideas needed
Our typical has been spinach, banana, frozen peaches/strawberries and filtered water
Recently started replacing spinach with chard for variety - it's pretty good Adding a lemon for a little zing and some liver detox Added blueberries because we just got some from our food co-op Usually add CLO or flax oil Tried coconut oil but it gets too firm when mixed with frozen fruit (which we almost always have) - so it's been vetoed for most of our smoothies Sometimes we'll go heavy on the bananas/strawberries and super light on the greens for a 'dessert'

Re: Green smoothie combo ideas needed
So far I've only tried one, but it's good. Spinach, frozen blueberries, frozen raspberries, a banana, and a little water.

<--------Green smoothie virgin
So... you REALLY don't taste the spinach??? Does it have to be fresh spinach, or would frozen bagged spinach do? I'm thinking about trying this some time soon, but kinda squicked out about what I'm imagining it would taste like . My usual smoothie recipe is: Frozen berries 1/2 c. or so plain yogurt 1/2 c. or so milk (or, better, coconut milk) a squirt of lime juice honey --just a bit to sweeten Would a bit of spinach thrown in work with that combo ??? |

Re: Green smoothie combo ideas needed
My kids' new favorite is spinach, pineapple, and banana. It is BRIGHT GREEN without any berries to turn it darker!

Re: Green smoothie combo ideas needed
we have green smoothies every day!! Shelbi-seriously, you don't taste the spinach.
what we do is throw in any combo of fruit that sounds good at the time with a couple good handfuls of fres spinach (I'm going to try kale later this week) and some ice cubes and blend 'er up!! Today we made: two oranges one lemon one pear one apple spinach ice cubes honey and it was great!! I had to add the honey because the lemons made it a little bit too tart for us. right now I have the following available to pick from: frozen blueberries, frozen strawberries, fresh mangoes, fresh apples, fresh oranges, fresh lemons, fresh pears, honey, spinach, kale, fresh carrots, vanilla soy milk, and plain yogurt. ---------- Post added at 09:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:29 PM ---------- oh, and bananas! I have fresh and frozen bananas available for us, too.

Re: Green smoothie combo ideas needed
I just started making green smoothies. I have used kale and spinach (fresh from the produce aisle) -- both are good, but the kale is a much stronger taste. IMO you really can't taste the spinach. It's fairly sweet and doesn't have a 'grassy' taste that some might find unappealing. I throw a handful in any fruit smoothie and it tastes great! Even my 3 yo and 15 mo love 'em.

Re: Green smoothie combo ideas needed
I really want to like smoothies... What is the consistency of these things? I get pretty texture sensitive. Something like slim fast makes me want to throw up. Something like orange julius or sometimes malts are ok if I use a straw. What is the texture like? Do you ever add protein?
