We folded and sorted a basket of baby clothes that had been sitting in the hall since C was 2 weeks old! The clothes now are in their "homes." She also folded this huge basket's worth of sheets that have been sitting around forever, and they are now in the linen closet. We put a bag of clothes together for Goodwill, too.
Then, she did a lesson on England for the children and we then had a tea party, with food that she brought, and then she did the dishes and wiped the table down! The whole time I am just holding my sleeping baby and nursing him. I felt so encouraged!
And she saw my whole messy house!

What a blessed day for everyone involved!

What a wonderful friend!!!

Doing well here, I have gotten rid of so much clutter and it has made such an improvement. Still have closets, and the laundry room but living areas are well kept up and it hasn't been that hard since the clutter is gone. I still have too many papers, but I have them pretty contained to one area now, and am able to go thru some at a time without a huge mess everywhere. That is an accomplishment

Guess What I did today?
I am only posting this here because anyone else would probably be "Well, duh!" but for me this is such a breakthrough!
I realized it halfway through the act exactly what I was doing.

I "did it now" instead of just ignoring something that needed to be done. I have really been praying for God to intervene and change my heeart and help me and I think He is!
The first thing was when I was getting something out of the crisper and I noticed a pear gone bad. Yuck! So, I tried to pick it up but it was all mushy. Then I noticed that there was liquid all in the bottom from it. Sorry that is gross. But anyway, I am ashamed to say that normally, I'd say "wow, I really need to clean out the crisper!" but instead I almost automatically got a paper towel and used it to remove the pear, and then took more paper towels to wipe up the mess.
I did it, right then and there!

Then, tonight, I ws doing the dinner dishes and noticed I had stepped in DS's watercolors and was tracking green paint on the floor. Normally, I'd say "ooops, guess I will have to mop later." but instead I just took a wet paper towel and got up all the spots right away.

I feel like such a cleanie! (as long as I don't look at my house. )
Baby steps, right?

That is a big step! I have recently been making that step in areas, too - I can pass by something on the floor and say to myself, "I need to clean that up," and I can do that for days. But if I just *do it* then it's so much easier. We're all learning this together! Thanks for posting!

though, when my thyroid is low I don't have the mental energy to pick it up--and barely the energy to think that it needs to be picked up. When my thyroid is near where it needs to be then I can pick it up and it's not even a challenge.

Go, Amy!!

I just recently had this revelation, too! Now, when I'm tempted to procrastinate I try to ask myself, "What exactly will be easier about this task later?" Usually the answer is "nothing", so I'm trying to go ahead and do it. It's addicting!

I've been doing this more lately as well -- it IS such a "duh, why haven't I done this before" thing, but I have to consciously make myself do it still! We had the house re-appraised two weeks ago, and this place was spic-and-span! So, we've all been working sooooo hard to keep it up. Well, DH and I have anyway.

Jumping in 14 pages late...I'm such a messie. My sweet hubbie tackled the living room with me over the weekend. 3 mos after moving in, our pics are now up and our last box is unpacked and put away. The next thing to tackle is the bedroom and keeping up with all the laundry to put away...

...Part of me says that it's okay to let the house go a bit b/c I work quite a bit (from home) and when I'm not working, I want ALL of my attn on hubby and baby. The other part says I'm a complete and total failure for not doing dishes everynight or for leaving laundry folded but piled for a week.

Glad I'm not alone!

Cardinal rule for this forum: you are not a bad mom just because you are messy!

Personally, I think those of us who are called messies just have our priorities straight.

I'm selling off my book collection. i can't believe how many I had and still have. I have listed 165 books on Amazon plus I have a homeschooling book list here. I've sold about 25 so far. I bet I still have another 200 around the house that aren't up for sale.

I think getting rid of stuff is such a burden lifted. I have a lot more stuff to go.

Default Out of the Mouth of Babes....

This was too funny not to share....

One of our favorite books to read in July/August is Blueberries for Sal.
The children enjoy the pictures very much, especially looking at Sal help her mother can the blueberries. Yesterday, I decided to talk a bit about the era in which the book was written. I told them that the book was first published in 1948, about the time that their Grammie was born, and that the kitchen in the picture would be a lot like Great Grammie's kitchen was back then.
I said "What do you see about little Sal's kitchen that is different than ours today? " I then waited for them to answer, expecting them to comment on the oven, or the canisters, etc.
DD just says "Our kitchen is messy and theirs is not!"
