Need ideas for elderly woman
I take care of an elderly lady, basically fix her meals and make sure she has everything she needs on a daily basis. I take her to dr appointments, etc.
I wanted to make her something for christmas, does anyone have any ideas? I knit and sew, I just don't know what to give her.

Re: Need ideas for elderly woman
Does she get chilly? Many elderly do, so a beautiful (warm) shawl might be a nice present.

Re: Need ideas for elderly woman
Yes, a shawl or a lap blanket I just finished a lap blanket for my (elderly) FIL for Christmas...I confess to crocheting it for speed though

Re: Need ideas for elderly woman
perhaps a lap blanket as well? Something that would go from waist to down below her feet?

Re: Need ideas for elderly woman
She sits in her chair and stays covered, so that may be what I do. I would love to make her a shawl, but I remembered that she can't lift her arms very easily. She keeps her hair cut short and doesn't like winter, so I'm considering a hat and cowl as well.

Re: Need ideas for elderly woman
Do you think she might like some knit socks or some crochet/knit slippers that would keep her feet warm so she could transition from shoes to letting her feet breathe some during fall/winter?

Re: Need ideas for elderly woman
If you do socks or slippers make sure they have an anti-slip bottom. Wool can be especially slippery. I have fallen multiple times in my wool socks.

I'm not sure. I thought about it, but she wears compression stockings and has trouble with swelling. She gets around with a walker that has a seat, but she pushes it. I wondered if she would like a walker bag. Do you know what I'm talking about? She doesn't really carry anything and the seat lifts with storage underneath.

Re: Need ideas for elderly woman
With the kind of walker she has, a bag probably won't be much help.

Re: Need ideas for elderly woman
Would a water bottle holder fit on the walker? You could easily make a small lightweight one.

It would! And she drinks a lot of water.
