Snap beans?
Do U just eat them raw or cook them, or is there some fun little trick or recipe that will make my kids want to eat them? They love picking them from both grandfathers' gardens, and I dont want them to waste them now. But so far only one of my will eat them raw, and usually only one bean, like to placate me, lol.

Re: Snap beans?
I LOVED to eat them raw right out of the garden when I was a kid. It was fun, picking, washing with a hose, snapping...

Re: Snap beans?
1 ways that my kids LOVE them:
1) beer-battered and deep fried (really, who wouldn't love them that way) with homemade dip 2) sauteed with salt and pepper (I saute them until they are slightly browned and then lower heat a ton and put the lid on...thereby steaming them until they are crisp-tender). |

Re: Snap beans?
I've never eaten them raw - interesting!
Several things here - my dad cans them into, some "kitchen cut" (about an inch long, at an angle) and some "french cut" (long skinny strips). After they are canned they are very sweet and tasty. We just heat the up plain. With fresh ones they are good steamed with a bit of butter (they can be a bit "squeaky," which the kids think is funny) or sautéed, which I LOVE. Sautée in a bit of oil or butter and add fresh cracked pepper and salt. |

Re: Snap beans?
We like them snapped straight into the boiling water when cooking ramen. Especially good with sesame chicken flavored ramen.
You could do the same thing with a simple pasta dish: throw the beans in with boiling fettuccini a minute or two before the timer rings, then drain them together. Toss with olive oil, herbs, salt, and pepper and pass the Parmesan. Start with a plate of antipasto or serve along with a simple roast chicken.
