How can I make syrup for gifts??
I am making blackberry syrup & I want to make quite a few for xmas gifts... but every recipe I have found online says it has to be refrigerated.. Has anyone made syrup before? Is there a way I can bottle it & preserve it?
TIA!! |

Re: How can I make syrup for gifts??
Glad you found something that will work. I was going to suggest Ball's Canning Blue Book because it has several good recipes for fruit based syrups to be canned.
Blessings, Kelly

Re: How can I make syrup for gifts??
I lost my Balls Canning book, I need to get another one.
What would you ladies suggest afa making this into a gift.. If I make it into the small jars, should I include like a honey stick with it for them when serving? I'm just thinking if they pour it out of a jar, it may get kinda messy yk? |

Re: How can I make syrup for gifts??
I'd try and find a honey dipper to include with the syrup jars. I've put syrup into both the cup jars and the pint jars. Pint jars are good for a couple of servings, but the cup jars really only get my family through one serving of pancakes.
Blessings, Kelly

Process in hot water bath, it says on that link. What does that mean? I've never canned before.

Re: How can I make syrup for gifts??
canningusa.com is my favorite canning guide. Hot water bath (I'm not that good at descriptions, so someone else may need to chime in) Basically, you put a big pot of water on the stove, make sure the water in the pot is over the top of the canning jars by an inch, the cans also need to be lifted up by a rack or something so that water can go underneath the cans as well. Bring the water to the right temp and let it go for whatever time alloted.
Ok, that was a horrible description! Here's a link http://canningusa.com/IfICanYouCan/T...BathMethod.htm |
